National City Bank...Animals..GAHHH!

Ok, most of you know, I live with my uncle at his house. We split all the bills..Mainly because there for a while, I could not afford to live on my own..And now that I can, unfortunately he's stuck in a job where he can NOT afford to live on his own, so I'm sticking around until he can. We pay 1/2 each of everything except our cars, we pay our own.
About years back, he took out a line of credit at National City, where he's banked for over 14 years. The line of credit was $10,000, and started out with a fair interest rate of 4% and gradually went up to 12%. We both used the line of credit over the years, and NEVER missed a payment. Never late..Nothing..This man is obsessive about making payments...This is key.
Well, things happened and the balance on the account started to get high...Around $9,000. This was things of BOTH of ours...The interest rate kept going up for the past 3 months from 12% to 18.99%...The minimum payment was $240, and only $16 was going to the balance...Not good.
So we called the bank on July 27 and got the payoff amount. I then PAID the ENTIRE balance off that day. I sent it from my bank, out of my account where I have my settlement money. My uncle was upset that I did that, because $9,000 is a lot of money...I told him it was cool because if $224 a month was going down the toilets of National City bank, we'd end up paying a LOT more than that over time...So we thought it was all over....I even checked the next day and was relieved to see a zero balance on his online account statement.
So I check the mail Friday night after work..There's a National City envelope in the mailbox. I think, "YIPPEE! Our PIF letter!" I thought, "I should FRAME this."
I go inside the house, and open the envelope and immediately feel rage....IT IS A BILL for $91.74. For FINANCE charges. I called them and asked them how I could be getting a finance charge when we PAID off the amount...And not just some little amount..over $9,000....NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS...all at once...And CLOSED the account.
His answer was, "Whoever you talked to must have given you the wrong amount. We're not ripping you off."
Yeah right. So I went in and paid the $91.74. And they WILL be getting a very angry letter from me..I'm still fuming over it. Why even PAY OFF an account if they're going to stick it to you one more time anyway.
Ok, enough rant from me...lol Thanks for listening..lol

Oh Jessi, that wasn't a bad rant at all. I hope you cut your ties with them. I think it's sad that they couldn't honor the amount someone gave you, I'm sure that $91.74 wouldn't make or break them, you would think whoever you talked to would have noted that you called for the payoff.
We're here to listen so feel free to rant whenever you need to. 8)

You know Jess, the best thing you did was to pay the rest of the money!
That would've ended up being the one thing that would have haunted you forever! lol
Definately write to the Federal Reserve Board and file a complaint as well as the bank manager and anyone else you can think of!

Yeah, I don't see where it's MY problem that someone didn't do their job...It just really irks me. And I KNOW they keep notes in the accounts on what we're told. They should have to honor that. Grrr!
My uncle is closing his account as soon as his direct deposit stops. N-city has been gradually irritating him over the past few months, and this just did it.
And lastly, did you get the PIF in writing, Jessi? You must have
And lastly, did you get the PIF in writing, Jessi? You must have it in writing for sure.

I wonder, how a person in the company escapes his responsibilities by saying it was the mistake of someone else. When anyone says anything, it comes from the company, not from someone individual. These remarks from one person can often be misleading.. Ultimately, we customers have to end up paying without have a strong stand.
Yes, I got his card and he typed a letter and signed it.
