Hi gang,

I'm tired tonight so I'm sorry if I don't make any sense. Well, mom is still in the hospital. I visited her after work tonight. The hospital is about five minutes from work so it is convenient. They had messed her dinner order up so bad. I guess they don't understand that she has rectal cancer and can't have things like raw vegetables and stewed tomatoes. It looked disgusting! So, after an hour of barking we finally got her something bland. Well, I had to run to the store after that to pick up a few more things that she needed. I just got a call from her and she might be released tomorrow. She saw her regular chemo oncologist tonight and it seems promising. I'm going to bring her some regular clothes because she's hoping to get released before her radiation appointment tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, they will cart her butt over in the ambulance. She doesn't want to do that so she is going to bug her doctor in the morning. Her blood levels are up and she is feeling better. I told her to call me when she knows anything tomorrow and I will break her out !!!! She's been in there almost a week so I know that she is going stir crazy. It's hard for her to rest because they keep waking her up every couple of hours. She's feeling onry so she's doing better :)

Glad to hear it! I bet she's sick and tired of it in there!

You're awesome, you really take terrific care of her. You two are so lucky to have each other. And that dinner really sounds nasty! LOL..

Anyway, I'm so happy for you both. My thoughts and prayers are always with you.

It's the most optimistic I've heard her sound in a few days. I'm going to pick her up a cup cake at the bakery tomorrow morning and put a nail file in it. Either she will chuckle or I will get it thrown at me. It will be good to have her home. Unfortunately, hubby has been feeling neglected since I have not been to my home since last Wednesday night. I live half an hour from my mom and forty five minutes from the hospital. I've been taking care of mom's house, plants, and her cat too. Hubby came over yesterday so he could go to the hospital with me to visit her. I have a feeling if she does get out tomorrow, I will be staying with her for a few more days. Hubby will understand though. I got her stuff packed just in case she does have to stay longer but I also have her escape clothes ready 8)

Mishele, I am happy that your mother is now getting discharged from the hospital. She will feel better after she comes out from there. There is a kind of sick feeling inside the hospital looking at other patients nearby. Even if you want to feel better, it doesn't happen because of the people around. Your mother will get the natural air outside and the love from you. She will be become stronger within few days. This is really a good news.

Well, another setback. Mom was in really good sprits this morning because she thought she would be released today. I got a call at work mid-morning from her and she said she was not getting released. She had another cat scan today and two blood transfusions because her red blood cell count is down. She didn't have to go to radiation either today. I visited her on my lunch hour and she was in a really crabby mood. My sister visited her right after that and said not to visit mom tonight. She wanted to be alone so I guess I will respect that. Maybe she will get some sleep.

Yuck, Mishele! I hope things straigten around quick!! But it is probably better she is still there and they were able to find the problems quickly..Had she come home, she may have gotten sicker, ya know? **HUGS**

She'll hopefully get some good rest and be better than ever soon! If you need anything, let me know. :)

Mishele-I am so sorry about your mom not getting to come home  But Jess is right, better her there than get her home too soon. I don't think that's all that uncommon, about her blood count. My friends' dad has colon cancer, and that happens every so often. Then they get him built back up,and he's ok. My love to you and your mom,and you get some rest yourself!...Karen

Well, good news guys. Mom got out of the hospital on Wednesday morning which was a big relief. Unfortunately, she still has this bronchitis she caught in the hospital. She denies she has it but she had an attack that scared me on Wednesday afternoon. She had awoken from a nap and had a severe case of the chills. So I turned up the heat a little bit and got her an extra blanket. She got ready for her radiation appointment and she was litterally shaking; she was that cold. She started to turn blue so I called her doctor's office. She had a fever of 100 so we took her in. They gave her some strong antibiotics and some breathing treatments for home. She was able to stop her chemo pump for a week so she could build up some more strength. She was also able to skip her radiation appointment that day. When I saw her Thursday evening, she looked one hundred percent better. She is weak but the doctors told her that would happen during the final stages of treatment. She is doing much better and getting some much needed rest. I was finally able to come home after a week and a half. I was able to spend some time with hubby and the critters. I've been sleeping well this weekend and it is absolutely gorgeous outside. I will go back to mom's this afternoon. My oldest niece has been staying with her this weekend. This has been a roller coaster ride this past week but things are getting better.

Mishele,
Chemo treatments are definately worse than the disease it treat! I had one and half years of chemo, and it was never ending doctor appointments and worrying about blood counts and this and that...it was terrible!
The only thing that got me through was my family, mostly my mother. Without her I wouldn't have been able to do it.
I know how terrible it can be for the care giver as well, but it will get better for you.
It's really something how much you appreciate every day after going through this.

Mishele-I am so glad she got to come home! My love and prayers to you and your mom :D ...Karen

When I was in the hospital after my car wreck they were poking and prodding and taking my temperature alllllll night long. Then they'd say, "Now get some sleep." I swear they waited right outside the door for me to begin to doze so they could come in and check my heartbeat again with that refrigerated stethescope.

They asked me if I wanted to go home, or if I wanted to stay the day. I said, "God NO! Send me home!"

Mom actually gets her chemo pump back on today for the next week at least. Her radiation ends next week so she is happy about that. I think then they will set up another appointment with her surgeoon and go from there. They told her she would get really tired during the final stages of treatment. She is now and she says it's hard just to do small things around the house. I have bronchitis so I haven't been able to be around her because I don't want to get her sicker. I've missed all this week at work and so has hubby. I'm feeling better though. Ezreke, mom may need the chemo for up to six months after the surgery. It really hasn't made her nautious but her blood count is low so they will keep an eye on that. She is still taking the cumidin but she has always been anemic too. It seems to run in our family as far as the females are concerned. I talked to her last night and she was in good spirits. She was more worried about me getting better than herself. That is a mommy for you though :)

Karen,

I'm feeling much better :) I just rested yesterday because I have the week from heck coming up at work. My other office partner causes me more work and stress and it just irritates me. Since I missed three days last week, I really need to catch up more and tackle some more projects before I fall wayyyyyyyyyyyy behind!

Well, for some reason it won't let me post a new topic. So I am going to be a bit lazy tonight. Mom's surgery is scheduled for Friday morning. Now that is coming closer, we're all getting more nervous. People tell me that this is normal under the circumstances. Mom is getting really nervous now. She has to fast two days before the surgery. Nothing but jello, broth, and water for her. I left work early today to spend some time with her. It's hard to keep calm but necessary. I spent most of the Holiday weekend with her. We had a ball :-) My sister is taking her to the OSU Hospital early Friday morning. I'm driving my own car since I am staying with different relatives. I'm not sure if I am going to follow them Friday morning or go down Thursday night since the weather is supposed to get worse. We've been having such beautiful weather here over the last few days. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers !

Mishele, Tammy is right. It is normal to be nervous ahead of time. Just try to think of other things and try to distract your mom from thinking about the surgery. I know you've already been doing this. It's only for a couple more days, so hang in there. My thoughts and prayers will definitely be with you and your family over the next few days.

I was talking to a co-worker today. His dad, who is 89, was just diagnosed with leukemia. His daughter is a nurse so she has been very helpful to him. They are going to take him to the cancer doctor tomorrow. He told me his dad just wants to more years to live and he would die happy then. I gave him a big hug and told him to call me after the appointment. Another guy I work with lost his mom last week to cancer. This was a four year struggle for her. And yet another gal I work with had her dad diagnosed with cancer a few weeks after my mom. He's already been through his surgery and is doing much better. He also went to OSU but it was very early for him. It has been a rough road for some of this year but we all hug each other every day. It seems to have brought us closer together. I have to call work Friday to let them know how everything went. Of course, I have to call a few co-workers at home. It amazes me how wonderful people can be :-)

Good morning,

I am home from Columbus for now. I have a bad rim on my car so I came home to take care of that. Hubby came to visit mom yesterday so he followed me back. I felt safer that way :-) Mom's surgery went very well on Friday. They believe they got the whole tumor out. The surgeons were very pleased with how the surgery went. We will hear back on Wednesday about the biopsy on her lymph nodes. Her neck swelled up Friday night so she has been in ICU since then. It may have been a reaction to some medicine. It has them stumped at this point but she is doing much better now. I think she gets out of ICU today so they will have her out of bed. She had a breathing tube in for a couple of days but that's out now. She was very hoarse when we visited her yesterday but she is in good spirits. I don't think I'm going back to Columbus today because I woke up feeling like crap. My one cat is sick so I have to take her to the vet today too. So I will give my sister a call after awhile to see how she is doing today. If she gets out of ICU, then I will call mommy later on. She knows I had to come home. Jessi, I'm sorry we didn't have a chance to hook up yet but I've been going in so many different directions. I finally got a full night's sleep last night. I'll keep you guys updated. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. :-)
