Tis the Season...

'Tis the season for strange crimes by even stranger people, with police blotters expanding faster than a 6-year-old's wish list of gifts. David Allen Rodgers, 42, was arrested Dec. 3 for driving while intoxicated  at the wheel of a float during the annual Christmas parade in Anderson, S.C. According to witnesses, Rodgers sped down Main Street in the Steppin' Out Dance Studio float with 19 people aboard, ran a red light and led police on a 3-mile chase. |

It seems like every year at Christmas time, thieves are always kidnapping the baby Jesus. Makes me sad and yet makes me wonder who would even think of doing something like this.

I can't remember which state it happened, but a mother had her 12 year old son arrested and charged with theft because he opened his Christmas present early. (I think it was a Game Boy and he opened it and started playing a game.) The police actually showed up handcuffed and arrested him like the mother requested. What a mom. I think that was a bit extreme and cruel. How many kids out there take a sneak peak at their presents? A good majority.

I heard that story too, about the kid opening his gift early. There was more to it, though I do think the mom was too harsh on him. Apparently the kid has been a problem child for quite some time, has been suspended from school several times, and is facing expulsion after Christmas break for something he did at school. She has major discipline problems with him, and she hid his gifts at her mother's house so he wouldn't get into them, because she knew he'd try. So he went to his grandmother's house, found the gifts, opened his gameboy and played with it. That's why she had him "arrested".
But I really think what the kid needs is some help - he's obviously very troubled.

When I was in 7th grade I found one of my Christmas presents, a really pretty red blouse. I put it in my backpack one day and changed into it in the bathroom at school. I wore it all day and changed back before going home. I got it back into the hiding spot the minute I walked in the door....No one was ever the wiser. It wasn't worth it, though, I was terrified all day long.

My parents DID make good on the old threat "if you peek at your presents, we'll take them all back" one time. I distinctly remember being told not to peek in my dad's garage close to Christmas time. We were not financially well off, so many of my gifts were handmade or hand-me-downs from other people. I was about 7 or 8, and desperately wanted one of those little metal kitchen sets, with a kid-size refrigerator, stove, sink, etc. And what did I find in the garage? The set of my dreams, passed on from a family friend (but I didn't care), complete with stove, sink, refrigerator and plastic toy food, etc. Being the smarta-- little kid I was, I couldn't stand to keep my mouth shut and said something to my parents. I don't remember what I said, but I know it must have been along the lines of "guess what I saw in the garage?"
I don't know where the kitchen set went, but I didn't get it. Lesson learned.

I never got to peek at my presents when I was little...My mom always blew it for me anyway...I remember being about 9 years old and my mom sat and told me EVERYTHING I was getting for Christmas...lol
And when I was 12, she took me shopping and I picked out all of my presents..Then she wrapped them and put them under the tree...lol
