Hi gang,

I'm sorry I haven't been around but been busy, yada yada. Anyway, we found out before Christmas that mom is now cancer free :) I've been meaning to post this for awhile but I just haven't done it yet. She won't need anymore chemo or radiation. She's doing well and recovering from her surgery nicely. Today, I was laid off from my job after six years. Talk about being blind sided so I've been working through those emotions today. I'm actually calm at the moment. I went from shock, to anger, to sadness. It wasn't handled well at all but I know that I'm better off. The funny thing is that I had sent a resume out Saturday for a position that I had seen in the local newspaper. They called me this afternoon and I have an interview on Monday morning. I had some friends take me to dinner and cheer me up though. I know that I'll be okay. I'm just really irked about the whole situation but things will get better.

Mishele -

I'm so glad for your mom - I know that has been the biggest thing for you to worry about lately. Now you can breathe a little easier.

I'm so sorry to hear about your job, though! That really stinks. I hope you get that other job, or that something else comes through!

Praying for you sweetie! :D

Hi Mishele.

I am so glad for you about your mom. I'm so sorry to hear about your job, though. It's great that you have an interview Monday. I'm a firm believer in "when one door closes, another one opens." This is going to be a good year, Mishele. It started out great with the news about your mom! I can't wait to hear how the interview goes Monday.

You guys are so right, there is obviously better opportunity for me elsewhere. I'm not impressed in how I was treated today because I wouldn't sign any papers. I'm not that stupid. This evening when I went back to get my stuff, he tried to tell me he wasn't going to pay me what he promised me earlier. Can't do that....... NO NO NO NO! I've been unhappy there for a long time. I should have left a couple of months ago but I was more worried about my mom and being able to spend time with her. I was able to do that so everything worked out for the best.

Oh Mishele I am so happy for yur mom - miracles do happen. And I totally agree with Dbaker! I am sorry to hear about you job, although if you weren't happy there - God has a way of stepping in and taking things out of our hands. And look at it this way when you get the new job on Monday you won't have to give a two week notice. (Ifirmly believe that you will get this job on Monday). Good luck, Be confident and ask questions. Also bone up on the company so that you have some info for feed back. Last question to as - What is the next step in the interview process.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the words of support and kindness. Irish, that's a good idea about finding out more about the company. They are local so it shouldn't be too difficult. The last job I interviewd for back in November (when the first round of crap was going through at my old job) I received an offer from. I guess I can honestly say that I learned a lot at my old job that will help me now. I woke up for the first time in years not having to go to work. It was kind of a relief not to have to worry about the mess that my location was in anymore. There could be more lay offs before everything is said and done. I got a call on a resume that I e-mailed yesterday and I'm going to interview for that next Wednesday.

Mishele--You ought to get in your car and drive on up here to MI! I got plenty of room in my hotel! :)

And now you have a second interview next week? That's awesome. Interviews are a pain in the neck, but at least that means you have 2 prospects. And if you have 2 offers, you get to choose. :)

LOL! Jess, could ya handle a fourth in MI? I'm sure you guys are having a great time. I'm going to spend some much needed time with hubby this weekend. We are going with another satellite provider and that is being installed this morning. The other just kept raising our rates and the service was getting bad. My hubby is all excited because we will know have DVR! Karen, you are right that I am not meant to be there. I'm pretty relieved to be gone and I know I will have other opportunities knocking on my door. I was pretty productive yesterday morning and it paid off. I contacted some employment agencies yesterday and I have made appointments with them for early next week as well. They all seemed pretty jazzed to talk to me because of my background. Karen, I love the new avatar!! I did get a new puppy for Christmas :-) Jessi, what days are you off again?

Good morning,

I'm getting ready for my job interview and I am a little nervous. I'm sure I will do fine because I have the support of my family, friends, and community family behind me. Jessi, I would love to come see you. I'll see what I can do because Friday is about the only day I have free right now. I've been reading some of the posts from yesterday and it makes my stomach churn. We know the we are above this kind of behavior. It seems two people are trying to cause havoc on this board and have reached their goal. Let's just ignore them so they do go away. We have dealt with worse than these two so we will make it through it. I hate to see my friends get upset over such nonsense. It's not worth it and let's remember what this site is about. I'll let you guys know have my interviews go today. I am meeting with an employment agency this afternoon too.

Ok Mishele - deep breath, head high, and walk in with confidence. Look the interviewer in the eye and when they ask you how much you want to be paid DO NOT give them a figure. Say something like that is negociable. And last question you ask them is "What is the next step in the interview process?" Good Luck. Colleen

Well, the interview went well. I did not ask about pay but they did ask what I made at my last job. They would be paying nowhere close to that to begin with. She said she wanted to see how much more she could get me and spent most of the time talking. She asked if I would accept their starting rate, I had to be honest and say no. I haven't made that amount in ten years. I don't mind taking less an hour but not about four dollars an hour less with my experience. We'll see what happens next as I have another interview this afternoon. Jessi, we could meet for lunch or something. I have a feeling I'm going to need some fun after a week of interviewing. Irish, thanks for the tips :-)

Anytime Mishele. The question that I hate is "where do you see yourself in ten years?" I have thought: 1.homeless in a bread line if I don't get this job.
2.I don't know where I am going to be in the next 10 minutes, let a lone 10 years.
3. dead at my desk in a low paying job because I can't afford to retire.
I have since come to find that this is a standard question to ask because of a psychological study that was done any years ago and the information is not even valid any more, but some employers continuue to use these stupid quetions. Good Luck this afternoon Mishele.

and you have to fight with kids when you are giving the stickers out. I would like to become a professional student. After a certain age you can go to college for free (some of the state colleges) or at a reduced rate and sit in the classes telling the young professors that until they lived through it don't argue!

Jessi,

Let's plan on getting together on Friday. I will actually have some of my severance pay by then. :-) We've been trying to do this for awhile now. I want to be a Walmart Greeter because it's my dream job LOL! Actually, it's a running joke around the sticks that I live in. Karen, pm me your e-mail and I will send you a pic of the new addition. He's barking at me right now and beating up on the german shepherd. Well, the interview with the employment agency went real well. She liked my diverse background and skills. So, she is going to fax my resume to two major factories for clerical positions today. The second thing is I thought she looked very familiar. I just couldn't place her at first. It turns out that she grew up with my husband's family so this could be a big plus for moi :-)

You have to start your training so that's no big deal. Did you get promoted? It's whatever works best for you. My ex boss left me a voice mail yesterday stating that he wants to talk to me. About what? The last thing that I want to do is talk to him right now. I've already spoken to the HR Department and taken care of things on that end. Oh well, I'll call him sometime. I have some resumes to mail so I better get them out in the mailbox. Then off to another interview this afternoon. :-) Karen, I will e-mail you a pic soon.

Mishele
Just a thought.. You might want to call your ex boss. Never burn a bridge... you never know when you will need a reference.. or who your ex boss knows...
I have been at my company 9 years.. and a new salesman was just introduced to me that I worked with 15 years ago.. Like I said you just never know..
I have a boss or two that I couldnt stand. But if I ever run into them and I do ( small industry) I always smile and shake their hand and think only think what I really feel... :)

I didn't burn a bridge. They are giving me a good reference. I doubt that he will ask me back. I wouldn't go if they did but I'm not holding my breath. You would be proud, I left him a voice mail yesterday but I've heard nothing back. I even had a polite tone. Believe I'm done being burned by any company. I don't walk away angry anymore as I've worked through those emotions. It was a good work experience for me and I made some good friends there. Those friendships won't end because I don't work there anymore. I chalk it up to life experience and an opportunity to grow. I actually have no interviews today so I'm going to see what else is available online. I met with another temp agency yesterday and they were very impressed with me. They are going to set up a meeting with a good company in the area for early next week or something like that. I have a couple of interviews tomorrow but that's enough for one week. Jessi, my hubby has to work Saturday so that might work :-) Today is going to be errand day so I better get my butt in the shower.

Well, mom had her port (from her chemo pump) taken out Thursday and is doing fine after that. She is just a little sore but she has been doing some work from home. She will going back to work part-time at the end of the month. I think she has plans to retire in January. I'm still pounding the pavement for a job but it's only been a week. I have to give myself time. Jessi, I left you a voice mail on your cell phone. Did you get it?
