Behcet’s is a rare autoimmune disease of the vascular system that originated in Turkey. It is rare in the United States but is becoming more and more known. Terry has this disease and it has been tracked back to when she was ten years of age. The doctor’s not knowing about Bechet’s mis-diagnosed her with every thing from lupus, MS, fibromialga and other diseases. 2 ½ years ago her symptoms flared up and began attacking her neurological, vascular system and immune system. Doctor Catherine Lee a Rhematologist, diagnosed Terry and has been treating her for the past 2 ½ years. She has tried everything medically known to help her including chemotherapy which gave her bladder cancer. She had treatment for that and thank God it is in remission. She is 52 years of age and has worked all her life until 2 ½ years ago when she could not push anymore. She has been bed ridden now for two years and her quality of life is very poor.
The Northwestern University in Chicago is conducting a clinical trial for Neuro Bechet’s which Terry has been proven a match. It is a, self, stem cell transplant meaning Terry’s cells will be harvested and cleaned and then put back into her after a strong chemotherapy session to kill all of the bad cells in her body. This clinical trial is F.D.A. approved.
Terry will be the third patient in the US to undergo the Bechet’s stem cell transplant and will be in the medical books. The odds are 50/50 to cure the Behcet’s right now. This treatment is also very dangerous the anticipated trial will be 2-4 months depending on how things go. This transplant really depends on if she lives or dies.
Terry has been contacted by Northwestern University Medical Center and they are prepared for her to return for treatment right away. Unfortunately she is not prepared financially to make the trip. They are on disability and do not have the funds needed at this time. She just found out the housing alone will be $2,750.00 per month plus hospital, food and transportation. Fortunately the airfare will be supplied at no charge through Mercy Med.
We are asking for your prayers and donation to help Terry and Aaron get back to Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago. We are schedule to be back there on February 11th. Terry is to start her stem cell treatment the 13th and we are going by faith to raise enough to support us.
The fund is set up at any US Bank under Terry’s Behcet’s Fund and donations can be made at any US Bank.
