Come during May, it's Tulip Time, the biggest festival in the WORLD, bigger even than Mardi Gras and carnival.
The Author of "the wizard of Oz", L. Frank Baum, stayed here in the summer time. He based Dorothy on a girl who lived here, and you can come and see the castle that he based the story on up at castle park.
The Lake Michigan beaches are gorgeous for kayaking, canoing, and swimming.
There are some terrific specialty stores and nice malls..Plus 2 huge outlet malls within 2 hours
This is a Dutch community..You can visit authentic Dutch restaurants and tour a wooden shoe factory..Plus the Tulip farm is beautiful!

Fins town is cool. :) We thought about sneaking up to the castle, but there were cameras.
My town has 2 amish restaurants, a bowling alley.....And not much else to do...Unless you like furniture, we have a few amish furntiture stores.
But we are VERY close to Columbus, so there's tons to do there.

Since I live close to Asheville -
I would say the Biltmore House and Gardens, Blue
Ridge Parkway.
Also other sites to see are: Grandfather Mountain,
Linville Falls, Linville Cavern, Lake Lure was the site of 2006 HGTV Dream Home, Mount Mitchell.
These sites are in the surrounding areas.
Tryon NC has a yearly bar-b-que cookoff.
2 hours away from Dollywood and Gatlinburg, TN.

It would have to be in the summer because we have concerts in the park and also movies in the park. And then if you go into Downtown Cleveland, you have Jacob's Field and the Old Rock Cafe. You can take a ride on the Good Time III or the Nautica. And we can't forget the Browns' Stadium.
I also live in Cleveland and we could have a ball! We could go
I also live in Cleveland and we could have a ball! We could go to Hecks for one of the best burgers in the world or Ferris' Steak House. Then we could hit the Rock Hall of Fame or any one of the world reknowned museums we have here. Maybe a play at Play House Square. In the summer we have festivals almost every weekend but of course the one that I go to is the Irish Cultual Festival where perfomers come from all over the world (Ireland specifically) like the Irish Rovers. We also have one of the best known Rib Burnoffs. It is a lot of fun here if you know where to go.

This is very tough for me. I'd need about 500. But let me throw some out there:
1) Food. You come here, you HAVE to have Patio Ribs. Plus pizza, of course. Too many to choose. And a good hotdog. Oh, and a Buona and/or Portillo's beef sammich.
2) Museums. That's one of the great things here. From the Field Museum to see Sue to the U505 at MSI, the belugas at the Shedd, a sky show at Adler, any special exhibit at the Art Institute.....that's a week right there!
3) Architecture. Chicago is the birthplace of the skyscraper. So from the Hancock to Sears Tower and a hundred others, a great walking tour is needed. Some many hidden gems like the Tiffany ceiling at Marshall Field's (and yes, it's Marshall Field's, NOT Macy's - I don't give a crap what the sign says), to the Rookery Building, the Standard Oil, the Carbide & Carbon building and others, they is much to see.
4) boat trip. Take a Wendella boat trip out into Lake Michigan and then up the branches of the Chicago River for some behind the scenes look at the sights of Chicago. And the skyline can't be beat being viewed from the lake.
5) shopping. Now that I have the women's attention, you have about a billion places to spend your money. From high-end like Water Tower Place and the Magnificent Mile, on through a thousand boutique shops in hundreds of neighborhoods. You name it - you can find it.

Let's see.. Los Angeles

4 Shopping Malls every few miles from Neimans to Walmart take your pick.
5 Temecula for the Balloon and wine festival.
All less then a 2 hour drive from the ocean to the snow... :D
