Ok, I know this is way off base from debt. Today I have been experiencing a lot of fluttering in my chest. Feels kind of like when one gets scared and your heart beats fast, (or flutters). I am not sure how else to describe it, but this is what I am feeling. It has been coming and going and it is very frustrating. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had something like this? I am one of those that hate going to the doctors to just be told it isn't anything.

2nband -

I hate to say this, but you might want to go to the doctor. It could be a lot of things, from too much caffiene to something that warrants investigation by the doctor.

I don't think any of us here are qualified to give you a diagnosis based on the description. (No offense to anyone here.)

My life has been nothing but stress for the past year, both emotionally and financially. Last June I had surgery, complete hysterectomy, and that was rough and then out of work for quite a while and then the money problems.... I know work goes up and down, same with stuff with the kids. I do have some good days and in fact had a decent weekend, but this morning is when it started. My boss says it seems like anxiety attacks. If it keeps up, I may go to the dr. Anyone every have any of those>

I talked to my dad and he told me to take an asprin and lay down for a while, so I guess that is what I am going to do. He said that is what he was told to do when he had a heart attack, THAT I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT!!! Anyway, he told me that if in the morning I was still having them, then I was to call the dr and get an appointment. He said it could just be stress, but ..... So I guess that is what I will do. Sure I will be in bed early tonight. Letting the kdis fix dinner and such.

I just love it, my mom told me she was having a "little procedure done" and it was surgery to place stints in her arteries, then she tried to tell me that her doctor said it was ok to continue smoking, WHAT! I don't know if she thinks I was raised by wolves and don't have a brain or what, parents just don't want to worry their kids I guess. PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR, don't let them put you off until the next available appt, get in there and be seen, hopefully you just have anxiety and some nice little valiums may help when you get the symptoms.

I think that heart disease is often misdiagnosed among women, which makes me crazy. I have worked with nurses for many years; and two of the most experienced I know went to the doctor with heart problems and were each told to go home and have a glass of wine!
The first nurse went to another hospital, where she was admitted to the CCU faster than your head would spin! Our bodies are different than men's and I would also tell the doc about the heart disease in your family so they really will check you out thoroughly.

OK...I called my doctor. I have an appointment tomorrow at 2:30. I had not been doing bad today until a few minutes ago and then had a pretty good flutter, so decided to call. Was told to continue with the asprin until then and to remain calm and when I get home I am not to do anything strenuous (sp).

Heart attack symptoms in men and women are completely different....Just so you know, most women don't even have symptoms until they actually are in full attack(just a little something I learned a while back when I thought I was having them) It sounds like you are having panic attacks though, they often mimic the common signs men get when having a heart attack

That is what someone else told me too...panic or anxiety. What has concerned my husband and my folks is the fact that I get this pressure in my chest, almost like indigestion and really bad pain sometimes, so..... But like my mom said, better safe than sorry, I guess. I hate going to the drs, but I also hate loosing my breath too and stuggling to catch it, which I did before I called the drs. We will see what happens.

Thanks Suebee....I am a little nervous. Dummy me decided to look up things having to do with this on the internet and made me even more scared. Especailly when I read about feelings of sometimes "indigestion" and sharp pains associated with it and heart attacks and now knowing you are actually having one....I decided to quit reading it because it was just upsetting me and I will just wait and see what the dr says tomorrow. I am trying to not think the worse, but it is so hard! I am going to try to think positive that it isn't going to really be anything.

2nband- if those symptoms don't let up, or get worse-son't wait for your Dr. appointment-get to the ER.Those can be some serious sypmtoms-indegestion-pressure,etc. If you get sick at your stomach, trouble breathing, pain in jaw neck shoulder-go to ER. I'm not trying to scare you, but like someone said, women present different symptoms than men, and it's better to be safe than sorry. When my mom had her first heart attack, she thought it was nothing, but she started sweating and had trouble catching her breath, so I called an ambulance-she was mad at me, but, turns out, she was having a heart attack. Keep us posted and take care..Karen :D

The "fluttering" is a heart palpatation. It is kind of like when your car hesitates and then jumps forward, your heart flutters and then starts to race. These an be just an anomoly of stress or they can be serious, but regardless, they do need to be reported to the doctor and be evaluated.

Love it!!! Never thought of them that way! Bad part is, they sure don't relax me like a vacation would.

My appointment is tomorrow at 2:30 (eastern time). Not sure what all they will do, but if I feel up to it when I get home tomorrow, will fill everyone it.

Thanks for thinking of me!

Karen

Ok...home from the drs office, with a major headache I might add. They did an EKG, which showed things fine, at least at the time. They took a ton of blood and are doing several test, one I know is thyroid. I was also given Prevacid for the pain in the middle of my chest, and next week I go to the heart center and get a heart monitor I have to wear for 48 hours and then go back to the drs 10 days after that, unless they call me in sooner. I have to keep a diary of when the flutters happen and what I am doing at the time. I also am not suppose to have too much caffine between now and then, so had to go to the store and get decaffinated coffee and some sprite. Now I have to clean my little 4 cup coffee pot so I can take it to work so I can have my coffee there in the morning! So to be honest, don't know any more than I did before other than what they did to me and what they are going to do, so far. So needless to say, still stressing!!!! But just have to take it one day at a time.

Karen,

Thanks for the update. At least you are on the right track to finding out what the problem is (if there is one). Hopefully, they will be able to help you out. My husband also has heart problems so I know how scarey it can be. He wore a heart monitor last year and that was no big thing. He has a problem on cutting back on the caffeine so kudos to you for a jump start on that. Just take care of yourself and follow doctor's orders for right now! I will keep you in my prayers. Love ya!

I am so glad that you gave us an update> by the way I was the guest that posted about the heart fluttering. I had problems getting logged out as did everyone yesterday. The halter monitor is nothing - just a little inconvenient! I have to wear it three or four times a year to monitor my palpitations. I have had them since I was 16. My mother and my 5 sisters have also had them since about that age. Most os us have been able to control them by taking meds, but at this time I am not on anything for it. But when those little flutters start up they do become quite annoying! One tip - what ever you do - DON'T BEND OVER! If your head goes below your knees it will trigger the flutters!

Thanks everyone. It is stressful not knowing what is going on, but like the dr said today, we need to rule out what it is not so we can see what it is, which I am hoping it is nothing. He was a little concerned that my blood pressure was up, and I might note that I have never had high blood pressure before, but he and I talked and it could have been caused by nerves today, so we will see. Other thing that stressed me out was the fact that I had gained weight instead of loosing and I have cut back on the take out food for lunch at work, I don't eat a lot of junk, don't drink a lot of sodas, been drinking more water and such, but because of my STRESS, I gained weight instead of loosing it. MY mom looses when she is stressed and I gain. I am so lucky....NOT!!!! So just not a happy camper.

Irish, I will try to keep that in mind when I get the monitor next week. LOL

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! You guys are great and I mean that from the bottom of my "fluttering" heart! LOL

Well as the absolute Queen of chronicanxiety/panic disorder accompanied by Agoraphobia...not to mention PTSD....I can't begin to tell you how many times I have been to er with symptons of heart attack. But you did the best thing by going to the DR. And I am glad to know that they are monitoring you....instead of just doing the EKG. I have a dear girlfriend going through the same exact thing right now...and she is scared also. Just know that my prayers are with. Oh yes I too also just posted on your homepage but got booted so shows as guest...love your tune...and your avatar...that's quite an image in the clouds isn't it? How can poeple not believe? The unknown is what is so scary. I will keep your friend in my prayers also. Thanks for the post on my page. I keep getting booted off also, so...

That is one thing I do do and that is believe. Have had too many life experiences not to and one gives me goosebumps to this day. Long story short, was in a vehicle wreck, (Toyota truck), something had gotten in my eyes and I ended up rolling the truck down a bank. It actually rolled on top of me and I cried out and it rolled one more time onto a shrub!! If the shrub had not been there, well the truck would have done down the hill. I was halfway out the driver's window trying to keep from blacking out (had no AC, so windows were down and no seat belt on but no laws at that time either). Some people showed up, 3 to be exact, and helped me. 2 female voices and one male. Asked me my name, what day it was, etc. Laid me inside the truck and one of them was stroking my hair. I do remember opening my eyes and looking at the person, but cannot tell you what they looked like. One lady's voice said she was a nurse. Within minutes and ambulance was there as well as police. A few people were there also, but I was on a back country road. Was awake the whole ride to the hospital, remember the ER, the x-rays, the chest tube, etc. Broke my shoulder by 2 inches, had a collapsed lung, (no broken ribs though), lots of bumps and buising and swelling and was in CCU. Anyway, turns out that the police talked to the people that were at the accident site and turns out NONE of them called the police or ambulance and they do not remember seeing anyone with me when they got there! One of my aunts brothers worked for the police and they tried everything they could to locate the people who called and as far as the call goes that came in, they cannot find out where it came from nor can they locate anything about it. For years I have tried every way I could to locate these people to thank them for saving my life, but finially had to say thank you in my heart because I know who was there for me and they were not of this world. I have had other incidents, this was the first major one, but too much has happened in my life not to believe.

May not always understand why things have to happen the way they do or why we have to go through what we are going through, but I figure there is a reason for everything and one day, maybe we will understand.

OK, done now...sorry, short story turned out longer than I had planned, and I left out a lot of stuff!!! LOL

Just wanted to give a little update....no word yet as to what the blood work showed, but today I went and got my heart monitor. It is very awkward and in the way to be sitting at a desk. Go back tomorrow and have it downloaded and the battery changed and then get to wear it some more tomorrow and it comes off Friday. Bad part, no showers! Have to figure out how to take a bath without getting everything wet and get to bend over the sink and wash my hair. You all know what I am going to do when I get home on Friday....HIT THE SHOWERS! My next drs appointment will be the 14th, one day before my 8th anniversary, providing there isn't anything major showing. Trying to stay optimistic. I have also discovered that decaf coffee sucks, (need that caffine in the morning! LOL) and getting tired of sprite, which is what my husband and son keep buying me!

Are both of those decaffinated? That is what I have to try to stay away from for a while. Did sneak a small glass of ice tea the other day. It tasted sp good! Don't like the decaffinated tea. Been drinking Koolaid also.

Sorry about the double post. My computer here was acting up a bit.

oh my, I steered you wrong! Just out of curiosity, I went to Sunkist's website and guess what-caffeine!! I have been drinking it all this time thinking it was caffeine free. SORRY! Faygo pop is all decaffeinated, and it is pretty good, and CHEAP. I love Kool Aid and decaff tea! I'm going to look for some more decaff pops. Be back soon!!

I never knew that decaffinated coffee had some caffine in it, but like you said, defintly not enough to get one going in the morning and I need all the help I can get in the mornings. My boss has been laughing at me because I have been a bit grouchy and I told him I was going through withdrawal. LOL Can't drink the good coffee in the mornings. I only have a couple of cups, but it is enough.

I will have to try some of those decaffinated drinks, but one at a time before I spend money on something that is going to sit in the house and go to waste.

This thing is so uncomfortable though. I know I am going to sleep like crap tonight and I am a side and stomach sleeper.

I also stay away from the subjects of diets. I have gone up and down so much that I have really screwed up my metabolism and even my dr told me I have very slow metabolism. Not like most people who get stressed and loose weight, I gain it! As soon as I know that things are ok, me and my daughter are going to start walking again. Need to loose a few pounds before everyone comes out for graduation!!!!

Thanks Tania ~ I will keep you in my thought with loosing weight. I have about that much to loose too, so maybe we will have to keep each other posted on progress, once the stress is gone! (of course eating 2 Tasty Creme doughnuts help, huh?) One of our vendors brought some fresh warm doughnuts in and I could't resist. Heck, have to drink that nasty coffee, so might as well have something that tastes good. LOL But only had 2 and they were the glazed ones, no filling or anything like that.

Did not sleep worth a darn last night. Was so worried about these wires getting tangled up or pulling them and this big box on my side, it was so uncomfortable. I really feel like I could lay my head down on my desk and go to sleep. UGH ~ I NEED CAFFINE!!! I will be a good girl and stay away. Will just have to stay busy.

Tonight when I get home I have to start going through pictures. Going to have a CD/DVD done for my son for his 18th birthday/graduation. Found a lady that would put it together for me and put it to music, so plan on having that playing on the tv at his graduation/birthday party next month. It is so hard to decide what pictures you want to use. It is right around the corner.

Do you think it is too soon to send out announcements? Not sure how early they are suppose to go out.

Oops, got to run to the Heart Center and have everything changed out for anther 24 hours.
