Newbie looking for debt consolidation

I am a new member of this debt consolidation. I realized after about a year of being out of school that my income and my lifestyle didn't add up. While in school, I racked up TONS of debt just to buy books and support myself. I do have school loans on top of this. I hope to see my debt go down as I get on with this program so I can finally buy a new car, and someday a house. I don't want to take my debt with me into the future. I hope this is something worthwhile and will help me when I need it.

Anyone have any success stories?

Also, does this hurt your credit?

Welcome to the forums! If not already, a counselor should be contacting you to discuss your options. Many of us here have been in your situation and there are a lot of smart people with success stories, etc. here. I am not experienced with debt consolidation but there are many that are and will be able to answer any questions you have or at least steer you in the right direction. You have come to the right place-we have a great group of folks here! :)
