End of July 2009 I started working on my internet payday loans. By November I was finished with them. No cost to me.

In September I started working on settling my credit card debt myself. Some of the debt settlement companies that people pay fees to go out of business and their clients lose their money.

I settled with HSBC for 50% in 6 payments. They will be paid off in February. Then I moved on to Bank of America. They settled for 33% in 4 payments and they will be paid off in February. I'm working on Citibank right now. Have a tentative settlement 35% in 3 payments, and I'm trying to scrape up the money for that.

All in all, this website has been a godsend for me. I've dealt with my creditors personally, they know my circumstances, they've worked with me and by August 2010 I will be debtfree when my car loan is repaid. I've been paying that loan on time every money to help repair my credit.

At this point I'm not worried about my credit standing, as I needed to get out from under this crushing debt for my sanity's sake. I am no longer stressed over debt, can sleep at night and had the best christmas.

I will start repairing my credit after all the settlements. I have a discover card which I am paying monthly at a reduced rate (hardship case). So I'm hoping that plus the car loan being paid on time will help. My mortgage has always been on time too.

So I would recommend your handling your own financial affairs. You will always know what's going on instead of trying to contact some fly-by-night debt settlement/consolidation company where you pay them thousands in fees to do what you can do.
