I'm looking for a sample letter to write to my original creditor to pull back debt from a collection agency. I really don't know what to say in the letter. I've searched on the web, but could only find this site:

This site offers a e-book on repairing your own credit for $29.95 (which I am considering), and will provide you with a bunch of sample letters if you order (this was one of the letters they offered).

Anyone know where I could find this sample letter for free? Or, could provide me with what to say in the letter?

Thanks, all!

-K from New York

I assume you are going to request your creditor to withdraw your account from collection.

Yep, exactly. I figured at this point, what do I have to loose? The worst they can do is say no. I won't be any worse off then I am now. And if they agree, then it's a bonus. I thought this would be a great first step in restoring my credit.

Hi my name is Quinn,
I have a question regarding and old utility bill that was reported to a collection agency by the name of CBSI. The bill is about 150 dollars. I have sent the original credit a sob story and they have agreed to help me remove the account when paid. I need to know what particular documents I need to ask for from the OC to stop CBSI from continuing to report.

Thanks

Quinn,

It's nice to see you in forums :D

Now it's their internal affair. Creditors place default or late accounts under collection, so there might be some specific way to pull it back from collection.

What you can do, ask them to make an agreement before sending you payments. The agreement should mention clearly date of the dealing, the amount to be paid and creditor should declare that they will update your credit report as ???paid' or ???paid as agreed' once you pay the said amount. In this way you can close the chapter and protect yourself from the unfair claims of the CA in future.

That was all from my part, hope some other members will put some more info at this.

Whats up guys,

I have another question. I recently contacted Alltel cell phone company because they were the original creditor on my credit report. The rep told me that the account had a balance of 600+ dollars and the account was sent to collection agency by the name of Focus. I do not know these guys and they are not on my report. Question is if Alltel sold the debt should it still be on my report if they sold it. The lady told me that she did not have any records on file but the amount owed. Do you think it would be wise to dispute or will I be opening wound.

q234,

IMO, disputing this entry does not make any sense. If you dispute, bureau will run an investigation and probably update is with collection which is a negative mark.

Contact Alltell and insist them to settle the account directly with them without involving Focus. If they agree, make an written agreement of your payment and get it signed. Once the account is paid, ask them to update your credit file with credit bureaus.
