Basically I had not made a payment to a major cc comp. for about a year, went to collections and is now with this company (see subject line). They wanted to do a conference call with my parents to confirm they would not help me. I stated there would be no way I would jeopordize my good standing with parents for a phone call surprise like that. Then the women stated that this compromise settlement was only good today and would be pulled and go to the next level and would not be able to help later.
No payment plan was available and she also knew of the company I work for due to a "cousin" that works there, and said she knows how much I make and also that my company would not like the fact if they garnished my pay. Is that true?
Also, they said the next action was a lawsuit and I would have to pay ALL attorneys and back interest so on and so forth.
Bottom line is I was on disability for almost all of last year and just started work. Believe me I want to pay this debt, but I can not come up with taht money and "deadline" they gave me until Monday.
What are my options? Any suggestions? Anything please, I just got anxiety for the first time...and I hate it..... :)
Thanks for your time

Sounds like a load of crap to me. She can't have her "cousin" tell her how much money you make, and she can't threaten your job.
Don't let her scare you.
The collection agencies are not allowed to call any third partie
The collection agencies are not allowed to call any third parties i.e.. your parents as long as they are in contact with you. They have the legal rights to call other person only when they are unable to locate you. So, the method that they have applied by involving your parents is just not right. You can restrict them from making such calls in legal terms. At the same time, ask your parents to send a cease and desist letter to the company and cover the legal grounds.
The collection agencies can't threaten with legal actions unless they really intend to do so. Before doing any such actions, they must make you aware of it formally. Verbal threats are illegal and you might insist some legal actions here.
The best way to handle this CA is to get sure whether they are really having the legitimate details of your accounts. Send a debt validation letter in writing to the company's mailing address and get the accurate picture of this account before you make any payment agreement. They need to stop calling you and restrict any kind of actions against you until the details are given to you in writing. Make sure that you have sent this letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. Keep copies documented in a file for records. All these documents will serve as a proof about your actions taken.
Keep your chins up; you're a good person that deserves all the help you can get. Don't let such collection agents get you down.

Creditor Recovery Corp did this same crap to us...they knew our number, yet chose to call my father-in-laws house 15-20 times a day, even after they had already answered and told them they had the wrong number. They told them threatening things...like "this could reflect you personally if you don't get them to contact us and pay" and stuff like that...how could it reflect them personally? I sent them a cease and desist letter then handed my stuff over to a lawyer...needless to say, I don't hear from them anymore, and neither do my in-laws.
