Fraud alerts are activated only after you ask the fraud department of the credit bureaus to flag your file. It must not happen if you are disputing any item. Their must have been an error with the credit bureau in your file. Contact the three fraud departments and let them know about this situation. They will correct the info in your file.

I called equifax since I wasn't able to reach a live person at Experian and they stated that when I disputed an item regarding the lost/stolen card two years ago and the current account reporting the same information it automatically generated a fraud alert. The dispute only occurred a month ago. Can I have them remove the fraud alert by writing to them and does it hurt my credit file or credit increases issued by a creditor?
Notify the fraud departments of the credit bureaus at the above
Notify the fraud departments of the credit bureaus at the above mentioned addresses given by Curlycarl and remove the fraud alert from your file. I will monitor the credit file regularly so that no incorrect information is reported in the future.
