I was checking my credit report from Transunion, i found that the report of June 2005 had a Capitol One entery, it stated that it was to be remove on August 2006 and the credit report for December had the same Capitol One account with a date to be removed on September 2007. Is this legal, change the date, since the date of last activity/or last missed payment was was Ausgust 1999.

Hi milliesoto

Did you make any payment towards this account after August 1999?

Normally, Negative information appears in the credit report for a period of seven years from the date of last delinquency. If you haven't made any more payments towards this account after Aug 1999, dispute with TransUnion and ask them to verify the item. They will verify the item with your information providers and update your file. A free copy of your CR will be sent to your mailing address.

Hi Ben:

as i was checking this Capitol One, i found that Capitol One took two old accounts and total them into one account in the amount of $2246.00 and sent me a letter offering me to pay the amount, this would be an account with a line of credt they offered me. But i never replied and they now have the two old accounts and this new one they open to have me pay off the old amount, which in turn they offered me to have this account open as i pay off the old amount they would keep it open a new line of creit off $500.00 once i pay off the balance, but i noticed they kept all three accounts on my credit report.
Is this legal.

What was the date of last activity in the other two accounts? Each account is shown individually in the credit report. Old accounts should not be mixed with the new accounts.

Based on the delinquency dates of each accounts, they will removed from your credit report. The lender can insist you to pay the total amount but they cannot report the old accounts by reaging the dates with the new ones. Contact TransUnion and place a dispute on this item. This account will be verified and you will receive the updated info.

the date of last activity on the two accounts are 8/99, i did not make a payment after that date due to not working because of illness. but the one account that is totaling the two accounts of $2246 was dated 08/00. i don't understand. I did not make a payment nor did i ever reply. But i did send all three credit reporting agencies a letter regarding this issue and the account totaling $2246 has been deleted from my credit file.
