Household Bank recently turned me over to collection on the 14th of October and today I received a statement from Household Bank that I have to send them the money and also received a letter from collection agaency with payment arrangements to agree to. Household Bank won't discuss the balance because it has been turned over to collections. What do I do? Does this sound strange to anyone else? I thought only one person could collect on a debt. Have sent the collection agency a debt validation letter by certified mail. Is there anything else I can do?

They are simply trying to collect a debt. Only one company can collect, but both can try. It's not ethical, but cc companies are hardly ethical beings.

Hi mom of twins

This same thing exactly happened at the thread given below with Shirley when she was paying to her creditors although the collection agency was holding the debt with them.

No matter who is contacting you, but if the collection agency is calling for the said debt, they should produce a debt validation letter with a copy of the agreement letter stating that this company is authorized to collect the debt from you.

Usually, after the debts are sold to the collection agencies, the creditors don't accept the payments. They can only accept it when it is still with the creditors.
