My husband has a 1993 Chevy Astro van that he just got in May. He never got around to making an extra set of keys yet. Yesterday, he wet out to his van, got me a few bucks, gave it to me, came back in the house, and went back to bed. The keys are nowhere to be found. All he knows is that he used them to unlock the van, put his windows down, got the money, and came back in the house. We searched the house for at least 6 hours last night. No keys anywhere. He never loses anything and he always sets them down on the counter in the same place. I know I didn't take them because I have a key ring with at least 5 keychains and I would have known if I had his keys. I don't know what we are going to do. I dont have extra $ to call a locksmith. I can just imagine what that would cost. Hell, I dont have any extra money. I feel like God is punishing me for going out to eat Friday ($21) or for going and getting some new clothes yesterday ($27). Like I'm getting punished for spending money I shouldn't have and now I won't have $ to make my chapter 13 payment if I have to call a locksmith. Has this ever happened to anyone? I have tried everything. I prayed all evening to St. Anthony. He hasn't been answering. Please keep us in your thoughts that we will find those damn keys. I don't see where they would have gone though unless he left them in the ignition and someone came and looked in our van in broad daylight and took them out and are planning to come back for the van later. That wouldn't make sense though cause his wallet, checkbook, etc was in the glovebox too and I would think if they were going to go to those lengths they would have taken that stuff too. :(

Thanks....I just really needed to vent. Hubby says everything will be ok but it's not gonna be if we cant find those damn keys.

Ok..STOP BLAMING YOURSELF!!!!!

Next, try St.Jude. He can help too, if you think the situation is impossible.

Finally, stop thinking about it. I mean it. Take a little break, then have your husband re-trace his steps. I'm sure they are somewhere completely stupid. Do you have a metal detector? Or know someone who does? And..Have you looked in the bathroom or on the floor in the kitchen? I am a veteran of lost keys, I know where you're coming from. They are there. Trust me.

You are in my prayers. Maybe St. Anthony will answer me. Stay calm. If he never left the area they are there.

I can remember a time my husband did this. I went through the whole house and even the TRASH, yes, the TRASH on a 100 degree day. Well I went back to the car and they were in the glove box.

Another time I found them on the toilet bowl rim.

Now go look in every place they shouldn't be. I'll be praying for you!

Hugs,

Moki

Thanks guys. We have looked EVERYWHERE!!!!!!! Gone through all the trash, in the bathtub, in all the cabinets, the toilet, EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot about St. Jude. I will pray for his help also cause it does seem hopeless at this point. I was wishing we had AAA but it looks like they only do lockouts anyway and this is not a lockout. Thanks so much for your help, both of you. *hugs* I lose my keys all the time too but he never does.

What is up with this site? I keep getting logged out. Thanks guys for your prayers. We have looked EVERYWHERE. I will pray to St. Jude also. I forgot about him, and it does seem hopeless at this point. We have looked in EVERY place possible. My house is not that big at all. I mean, the bathtub, cabinets, fridge, went through all the trash, the toilet, glove box, .........

I lose my keys all the time but he never does. I was wishing we had AAA but it looks like not even that would help. They only assist with lockouts I guess.

Thanks guys for your prayers. It means so much to me. *hugs* to both of you :)

OMG that is what we are still doing!!! Searched the trash, the yard, the van..............been through all the laundry and laundry baskets (that's where I usually find mine! :) ) Evidently, he never loses stuff but when he does, he is REALLY good at it!!!!!!
Have any of you ever had to get a set of keys made at a dealership? Any idea of how much it costs?

ASK YOUR HUSBAND ALL PLACES HE WENT WHEN HE COME OUT
OF HIS CAR.
ONE DAY I LOST A SET OF KEYS AND A MAN BRING TO ME
BECAUSE I HAVE A BRAZIL MAP IN MY KEY HOLDER.I'M THE ONLY BRAZILIAN IN THE BUILDING AND HE GUESS WAS ME.
I LOST THINGS IN A STORE,HOME,STREET AND I GOT BACK BECAUSE I INVESTIGATED ALL PLACES I HAD STOPPED ALWAYS.ONE TIME A LOST A WATCH IN CALIFORNIA
AND I THINK NOBODY WAS AROUND BECAUSE WAS VERY EARLY
IN THE MORNING AND I CAME BACK THE SAME WAY BACK
AND I FOUND THE WATCH.
PRAY BECAUSE IS NOTHING LIKE A PRAYER AND I'M PRAYING EITHER FOR THE RETURN OF YOUR KEYS.
I HOPE YOU FIND YOUR KEYS.
SOME TIMES I LOST THINGS BECAUSE I'M TIRED OR VERY
WORRIED WITH A PROBLEM AND LATER I FIND THE THING I HAD LOST OR REMEMBER THE EXACT PLACE I PUT IT.
I WAS IN BRAZIL ONE TIME AND MY MOTHER LOST HER COAT
AND I WENT BACK IN THE SAME BUS AND THE COAT WAS IN THE BUS STOP AND SHE DIDNT BELIEVE WHEN I BRING THE
COAT.THE BUS STOP WAS FULL OF PEOPLE AND EVERYBODY
WAS THINKING THE COAT WAS FROM SOMEBODY THERE.
GOOD LUCK!!!
GOD BLESS YOU,YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR DOGS.

Yeah, ks, we have turned EVERY part of the house upside down like 5 times. We still know they have to be here somewhere. He didn't leave the house with them. Like I said, the only other thing that could have happened is he left them in the van and someone took them but I think that is really far reaching.

Tania, you are an angel. Thanks for your prayers. I am praying also, for St. Jude and St. Anthony to please help.

Sass....you are in my thoughts too! I have done this twice I am sorry to say...the first time was on an old vehicle I was actually getting ready to trade in a month...and lost all my keys..at work..and none of us could find them. I did have to call a locksmith and I remember it costing me $175.00 and this was at least 10 years ago. The other time was on my new car...I had my purse stolen and both set where in my purse..(don't ever do that)..The dealership only charged me$25...so defintely try that first!! Just a thought...did you look on the ground under the car?? I once dropped the keys and accidentally kicked them under there...had to go get a broom to get them out.

OMG! I just added St. Anne to the list of St. Anthony, St. Jude and I'm adding St. Joseph for good measure.

Check the bathroom! He might have gone to the bathroom, medicine chest under the vanity behind the toilet. Then the kitchen cabinets. What about the wash machine could you have put his pants in and the keys are in the pocket? Look in shoes under the couch. It's the crazy things.

Don't spend the money until the witching hour.

I'm still praying.

Thanks pocono!!! My daughter has been praying to St. Joseph, too!!!

We checked EVERYWHERE. I mean EVERYWHERE. It is the witching hour now.....he is getting ready to go to the dealership and hopefully they can just take the vin number off the title and cut another set relatively cheap. If we have to call a locksmith, I am screwed.

Thanks to all for the prayers and words of encouragement. We never did find those stupid keys. We went to the dealership and they were out of the keys themselves but they gave us the key code. We took that code to the locksmith and it was $15 a key so get them made so it was $30 for the door key and the ignition key. Of course we got extras made too. :) Thanks again, everyone. Now I am just wondering how many hours it will take for the original keys to show up. I love you all!!!!!

OMG... see how out of it i am?? I missed this thread all together yesterday!! I'm SOOOOOOOOO sorry Sassy!
But glad it only cost u 30 bux! whewwwwwww!
I have a key story too but it cost me a LOT more than that to get replacement key, yes key, ONE key ended up costing me over $200!! YIKES! Of course i'd have to have keys that have a computer chip in em! SIGHS! Was at the grocery store shopping and i bent down to look at the diff kinds of coffee, went on shopping then go to check out and my purse is gone! POOF! Vanished! Someone stole my purse outta my basket! Eventually the store found my purse with everything in it, (luckily) but my keys! Hubby came and disabled something under the hood so it wouldn't get stolen, it was at night. Next day i went to dealership and paid 75 bux for a key, go to the car and the key starts it but in 10 seconds it dies! It's an anti theft protection! SHEESHHHHH! Had to have the car towed to the dealership for them to program the key to work..... so then i'm without my keyless entry.... so hubby buys me a new one at the dealership for over 100 bux!! GAWD that was terrible! So 2 years later he loses his keyless entry to his brand NEW car! (dont' even ask how the heck u do that) So i call to buy a new one and they were over 100 bux so i start looking online and find this place that if u still have ur factory radio in the car u can get keyless entry for 20 bux!! I figure wth, if it doesnt' work i'll send it back.... well it works! It really, really works!
I'm sooooooooooo sorry Sass that i missed this yesterday!! :( I've been a walking zombie lately!
But so happy that it all worked out for u! And as someone said, he'll find the keys now that u have plenty of spares... It's the way of life!
Miss ya,
Ang

:( I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't find the keys and had to go through that hassle.

We had an incident like that with house keys. When my mom passed away a year ago we were going back and forth between her home and ours. When we were getting ready to leave I looked and saw we didn't have our house keys. I tore the place apart and NO keys anywhere. We had a 2 hour ride so we left and on the way home we retraced our steps and no keys. We got to the house and luckily my husband was able to do something with the lock and open the door. Now we have no spare set!

We called the last owner and luckily there was an extra set and we got that.

Well a few months go by and we're moving everything out. I'm checking the wash machine to be sure that everything is out......THE KEYS WERE IN THE WASH MACHINE!

I can say we go through this Key Routine at least twice a year.

So sorry.

Hugs,

Moki

Ang and Moki, I love you guys. Thanks for sharing your stories. At least hubby and I aren't the only ones.

Those damn keys STILL have not shown up. I know they are in this house somewhere. Ang-the only reason we got by so cheap is because we drive junkers. Otherwise mine would have been expensive like yours. And I am always paranoid about leaving my keys in the basket at the grocery store. I have a bad habit of throwing them in there instead of putting them in my purse.

Another thing I am completely paranoid about losing is my cell phone!!!!!

Sass,

One of my greatest achievements is leaving them in the ignition and locking the door. It all started when my husband couldn't drive at night and would sit in the car while I ran into the store. Well, when I go out alone I have to remember to take the keys. How many times I locked the door and had to get someone to help me. It's ok in the summer because I always leave the window slightly open but the winter is a totally different story.

I know that those keys will show up and you will be as mad as a hornet. It's going to be someplace where they're right in front of you. I know it happened to me many times.

I swear I'm going to invent something for us who have key problems. I'm working on it. Just give me a little time. LOL

Hugs,

Marianne

Well my oldest daughter Ms Ditzy, ha ha, locked her keys in her car NOT once but twice while it was running, here lately too!! Thank goodness the kids weren't in the car yet! YIKES!
She said she starts the car to cool it off before putting the kids in and she's done it twice now! With NO spare key!
Shakes my head,
Ang

My best fiasco with keys was when I was a youngster about 18......had the keys in the ignition, car running, got out left the purse on the seat with the spare key and got out and locked the door!

The most recent episode was about 2-1/2 years ago when we were on our way to PA. I had the keys in the ignition, car running got out to ask for directions and the DOG happened to come to the window and step on the door lock. Hubby was in the U-Haul somewhere in the area. Luckily the community had a security team that hunted him down and he was able to come back and give me the spare keys.

Ready for a rubber room!

Yes, Sass the Dog. Peanut my lab mix. Yes, we are a three dog family. That night was the nightmare from hell. I can remember standing at a guardhouse with a car running, with the tank on Enough, the dog is barking her fool head off and a kind security guard reassuring me that I will laugh at this one day.

Oh the other two were with my husband in the U-Haul. The move from NJ to PA is a story in itself. No one would believe if I told it.
