I have been recently scammed by a credit card company and am fearing identity theft. I wish to activate a fraud alert in my credit file? Whom should I contact? Thanks

Jose,

I am sorry that you are going through this situation. You need to be very careful with your credit file and keep a constant watch if anyone is trying to misuse your accounts. To activate a fraud alert, please contact the fraud department of the three bureaus and request them to activate a fraud alert.

An automated voice system will be taking your call and this entire process will take a very short time. Once the alert is activated, all the bureaus will share information about your credit internally. The creditors will contact you before any activity takes place in your account. For this purpose, you should preferably give your cell phone number for instant reach.
