Hello all,

I posted on some time back and using that helpful info I've been able to work on some of my debt. Since being able to get back to work I have been able to settle with three CA's thus far by putting so much back a check.

However, it seems that now when I have the possibility of paying the CA's now are demanding even more (jumping $200 - $400 in their settlement offers) from just two months ago. Just this week I received a letter from a Mapother & Mapother requesting payment for $2000 from Convergence LP -which I never have received any communication from that particular CA in the past.

I decided to call them about the account (not admitting to anything, but to see if they had info on it). The lady I spoke with seemed clueless and could tell me only that it references a Chase account requesting I send a validation letter to their main office?

Also, my debts consist of about $10k unsecured debt with the largest portions of it being from late fees & interest, etc and I'm about a year +/- away from the SOL ending.

Anyway, I guess I am just wondering if I should still try working through it on my own or if I should start looking for maybe a debt settlement company or bankruptcy options? Any help, ideas or direction would be greatly appreciated. I have read through the site, but still had questions so I wanted to ask on the forums.

Thanks very much,
sky

I don't think a debt settlement company or bankruptcy is a suitable option. As it has already been suggested, its better to play it down and wait for the SoL to run out. If the CA starts getting pushy (they tend to do that for debts nearing the SoL) and contacts you frequently, you can try and negotiate a settlement.

Thanks both for the replies. In regards to the $2000 account that's been referred to M & M (above), what would be the best way to handle that since it's already progressed thus far.
I had originally planned on sending a letter requesting more info on it, but after reading everything it looks like that may not be a wise idea?
