Help with Dispute problem

We took the proper steps in disputing the claim informing the collection agency and the credit bureas, however, the credit bureau's completed the "investigation" and verified the debt. When we called the collection agency (midland credit management), asking for some documentation, such as a summary of charges or a bill (anything from Pac Bell) they said that the phone company had not sent them anything and couldn't give us a timetable for getting it (saying that it could drag on forever).
This sounds very unethical and I don't understand how the bureau's could verify a debt when the collection company has no evidence of this debt.
Does anybody know if I have any recourse here and what action I should take. The bill is $106 bucks, but its not the $, its the fact that our otherwise perfect credit is damaged.

Response to your phone problem
I had a nightmare situation with my local Verizon bill last year when I moved into a new apartment and tried to transfer my services from one town to another. In the meantime, I had ongoing problems with Verizon during the entire time I lived in my last apartment, which was 3 years! I finally got so fed up with their disrespectful employees, I canceled my service and switched over to Cable. I continuously got billed as well. The only time you will get anywhere with a form of "monopoly" is when you write to the President and CEO of the company. Send all copies of documentation, send it certified, return receipt requested, with a copy to your local Attorney General's Office. Do not waste your time with the BBB. I have learned that you START AT THE TOP! You will get results! I promise you!!! Good Luck!

thanks. unfortunately PacBell doesn't exist anymore, nor does SBC who bought them out before the new AT&T who bought them out. So there's not really much of connection.
Do you have in writing that the CA was unable to get the details
Do you have in writing that the CA was unable to get the details from your creditors? If you it in writing, this will prove your dispute to be correct and the CRA will be forced to give you the results of the investigation if they are saying it to be correct. In any case, your report should display the actual standing of your credit. If anything is disputed, it should be marked accordingly. You can also add a 100 word statement to point out the actual facts in your file.
