Is there a way to find out if a payday loan company is licensed in my home state (Wisconsin)? Wisconsin does not have an interest cap on loans for companies that are licensed with the state Department of Financial Institutions, but they are limited to 18% or less if they aren't licensed. The DFI has a website list of all the licenses, and they also have a phone number you can call; however, I've heard that all these PDLs go by all sorts of names, so how do I know if they are licensed or not.

I have loans through GFSIL, ASAP Processing and Whistler Holdings/Xpresscash (there are a ton of Xpresscash entries on that site, I have no idea which one if any are that one.) Can anyone help me either to determine what they could be licensed as if anyone would happen to know if they are licensed? I would appreciate it.

Also, by Wisconsin law, since I obtained a loan, they are required to notify my spouse in writing which they did not. Anyone know if I can use this against them?

The Dept of Finance as well as the licensing authority in your state will be useful resource to find out the legitimate loan companies out there.

If you believe that a payday lender has violated ANY of your rights, please contact the Department of Corporations Consumer Service Center at
1-866-275-2677 or 1-866-ASK-CORP.
