If I were you, for starters, I would order a copy of my credit report (you can get one free each year -- I think the URL is www.annualcreditreport.com) and make sure it's really you they're talking about here.

Using your legal rights under the FCRA laws, dispute the incorrect negative information put in your credit file. The credit bureau is accountable for putting this negative remark from the company. They are responsible to prove that you really had an account with AT&T before keeping the entry. Dispute the item with the credit bureau. Also, send letters to Palisades to show proof of this AT&T account. Before you exercise your legal rights, be 100 % sure that this account never existed and that you have not forgotten about it now.

Thanks for your quick replies. I have already disputed this information with experian two times. Both times they told me the collection agency confirmed the account. That is all they would say. They did add a note on to my credit report stating that I dispute this account, but it is still on there.I think I will take your advice and send a letter out to Palisades asking them to verify this account. I have read on here that they are not very easy to deal with though. Do you think I should write a letter to the law firm asking for verification of this account?

The law firm is saying that they are authorized for the collection of your account. If they are sound true, get complete info about the debt they are willing to settle. Everything must be in writing before your money goes to them. Your legal rights are protected. Use them to deal on this matter and with the law firm. Arm yourself in a better way reading this link from FTC. Good luck

Hire an attorney. Palisades knows EXACTLY what they are doing. 1 - request in writing, send certified mail return receipt requested ask for verification of debt. You will not receive an answer, but you must do this to show you've done your ground work. 2 - contact AT&T and speak with collections. AT&T must verify the debt. Get something in writing. If AT&T cannot verify the debt, ask that they send you a written statement to that effect. You may have to file suit against AT&T, Palisades, and whichever law firm Palisades is hiding behind at that time. If you can by some slight chance come up with a creative way to fight Palisades, they are going to throw up their hands and hide behind the "oops - bona fide error!" defense. Do not give up. I would also suggest that, until you get this resolved and removed from your credit report, you check with your District Court and make sure Palisades has not filed suit against you. They do this and they do NOT provide you with legal notice. They falsify the notice of service. You can end up with a judgment against you, garnishment of your wages and your bank accounts, and NO IDEA that you have been sued. Be proactive. Don't give up. Keep all your documentation. Note any and all telephone calls from them. Good luck. You are going to need it.
Att collection accounts palisades
First you should contact ATT and let them know what you are disputing. Ask that they repond to your request for verification of an actual account and how that account was verified in writing. At the same time request that Palisades verifiy the information they have on your credit bureau with ATT and ask to respond in writing also stating what is their procedure for verifying information reported to them, and write the credit reporting agencies and ask that they verify the information they are reporting and their procedure to verify information they report.
In the end ATT will reply that you will need to contact the collection agency because they do not have old information, they do but its in their archives and they do not bother retreiving account information unless by court order.
So how is Palisades going to verify their information they are reporting? They can not and will have to remove the deragatory information from your bureau.
Most likely they will not tell the truth and say only that the account was verified but you have a right to know how that information was verified and access to the same information about your own credit and accounts.
At this point they will have to delete the bogus information.
