I learned about Palisades when my credit monitoring notified me of a bad strike. So I go to check and I see these people on my credit. I didn't receive a letter and had no way of contacting them. I called equifax to dispute this and they, I guess, contacted them so I could receive a letter and phone number. I finally got a letter and called to see what it was all about, and they said it was something from Discover card and they bought debt. However, they told me if I didn't pay the settlement in the alloted time, I will never have a settlement again and will have to pay the complete amount!! This is crazy! What legal action can I take!

Thanks,
Jamila

Send a debt validation letter to Palisades asking for the following information.

If they can't give you the following info, they don't have your file and their collection is not legal. That means they cannot enter anything negative in your file. You can get an attorney and file a lawsuit if they insist to keep the negative remark in your file.

By law a collection agency does not have to offer or extend a settlement offer. So if you asking what legal action you could take to make them extend another or give you a longer time frame the answer is none.

I would do the DV letter first un;ess you were able to still call Discover and find out where they sent it.
