If you want to call it that...I've always had cc debt, and was making the minimums, but it really wasn't getting me anywhere. So I shopped around (a bit, but not too extensively) for a debt consolidation company. I'm working with Freedom Financial CCS (through CDS John Leaberry, P.A.) and have been with FFCCS since January 2006.

It's been a bit bumpy, but for the most part is working ok. I pulled my report last night (I applied for a store cc, and got turned down a few weeks back) and found that I had three negative items. I did some investigating, and found that I had one account 60 days past (which may have become that way during the initial negotiations between the creditor & the dc company). The other two are listed as current, but had been listed as 30 days past due...Long story short, I called the dc company today (and just spoke to them a minute ago) and got the update. One item (Target) will be brought current - for some reason, they (Tarzhay) were saying one payment was late, but it was already in the program.

The others I will have to make payments on to bring them up to speed. Though the dc rep said she talked to the creditors and they told her they could not verify exactly when the accounts went past due. Hmmm...So I do feel a bit better about this mess, but I was horrified to see my credit score. I knew it wasn't terrific, but it's under 600..Ick!

Lesson learned - monitor your reports!

Lastly (I promise, I'll wrap it up now) - has anyone else encountered a similar situation? How did you resolve it?
