Back in early August I decided to try diputing deragatory marks on my credit report, I decided to do this myself after talking with companies who charge a fee for this. Well today I got a response for all of the disputes I made. I had success with having 7, yes 7, degratory marks deleted from my filed. That feels good. I actually forgot that I had done this because it has been awhile, but this was good news. (I had a total of 13 deragatory marks on my report, so I just went ahead and disputed all of them, well the other six made updates on my file, updates that needed to be made, and actually were in my favor)

I'm happy for you!! I had some things on my credit report with outstanding balances that I had paid 2 years ago. Earlier this year I got a copy of my credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and Transunion. Experian and Transunion were updated with "$0" balances, but Equifax still showed that I owed the money, so I disputed it with them, so maybe I better check to see if they have updated it yet.

Yes. I never really thought anything would come of this, I have been told that this is what you do, and I did talk to a few companies who charge a fee for this. But I thought, why pay, I should at least try and do it myself first before I'm out more of my hard earned money. How much did it effect your credit score afterwards? I'm not expecting anything great, I'm just curious just how much it increases the score.

First of all, the total of the debts that I owed was almost $900. Right after I paid them off, my credit score didn't not increase right away because it took almost 3 months for the credit bureaus to updated it, but after it did update; Transunion's jumped almost 15 or 20 and Experian's jumped maybe 15, but my Transunion score has always been higher than Experian.

I have found that TransUnion is more likely to delete items off of your credit report than Experian or Equifax. I also had like 13 derogatory items on my credit report and they took off 7 items, but only TransUnion did that. I'll be getting my free yearly credit report again some time next week to see what they are looking like.
