My account with paycheck today was turned over to United Legal the gentleman and I use that term with much sarcasm refused to send me a letter a debt validation. He said they only had to send it out once and I informed him I had never received it and he told me to bad they would not send another one out and he refused to give me their address anyone have it? I overpaid Paycheck today and I refuse to pay them any more but I need United legals info to give to the Arizona AG's Office

That's the right United Legal. Darlene and Doug Graham run it. Believe it or not, they did actually file for authority to operate in Arizona as a foreign corporation. Doesn't mean they have the necessary licenses to do collections (but I can't say they don't either as I didn't have info either way in my files) but it's a two-way street. If their collection efforts did cross the line you can go to your own state regulators for recourse.

Whether you have a legitimate complaint or not assumes they've actually violated the fdcpa or the state corollary. It sounds like they may have based on what you described, but that's an off-the-top-of-my-head reaction, not a bona fide answer based on research.

Having given you my little lawyerly disclaimer, let me answer the question. The Department of Corporations is who they are registered with to do business in Arizona, so you could start there. However, the AG normally has primary authority for investigate consumer complaints of this nature. I would make the complaint to that office and cc: the Dept. of Corps.
