Is this a pdl company? Or is it a CA company? Either way neither can threaten you with jail for defaulting on a debt. This is unfortunately an illegal tactic some use, and several internet pdls are famous for. However, if this is a pdl sending them a cease and desist letter won't work, since they are the original creditor they do not have to abide by your request/demand. However, if it is an outside CA then they would have to abide by the cease/desist letter.
