Hi, I have about 6,000 dollars in credit card debt. This debt is broken down into 3 credit cards, all of which are overdue, and not current. I just lost my job so I really cannot call them to tell them I can't pay them anytime soon. Is it a good idea for me to enroll in debt consolidation? are there upfront fees that must be paid in order to get the program started?

Hiring a consolidation plan will only help you in making the payments towards your delinquent accounts. The accounts will become current and you will pay it in easy plans fixed by the consultant.

Most important, a debt consolidation will avoid all possibilities if your creditors intend to sue you. Regarding the fees, take the quote from a counselor and discuss about it. You maybe able to adjust the charges in your payment plans. Following benefits will come to your side as you are taking the consolidation route.
