is it worth it to consolidate credit card debts, owe about25,000

In a debt consolidation, you will have to pay the principal amount. The interest rate will be brought down and most late payment fees can be waived off. A lower payment plan will be designed after the consultant does analysis on your income and expenses. The plan will be set for a fixed period and you need to make the payments regularly to your counselor. He will post your payments to the creditors in the plan and your credit report will be updated after all are paid.

You have other options like a debt settlement program. In this type of program, the total debt will be negotiated and settled for a lesser amount. A good counselor will settle the debt by 40 to 60 percent. Know the functioning of this program in the debt settlement29 article.
