I have a 777 credit score with NO late payments. my credit cards are around 9,900.00. Would it be in my best interest to do a debt settlement or continue paying the high balance (maxed out) cards to keep my credit score up. One credit card company said they would cut my finance charge in half. The other said they would go to 5.76 for 3 months and afterwards to 23.6. the other 2 credit card companies wouldn't budge. I'm frustrated at myself for getting in this mess. How can I get out?

Will you be able to manage the payments until the debt is cleared? If yes, my advice will be not to take any debt management program. Your credit scores are very good at present. A debt management program will bring it down. If you can pay it on your own, that's the best thing you should do for your credit.

In case, if you can't afford the payments in the coming times, then only go for professional help. Be aware that late payments and defaults in the future will lower your credit scores. In that case, take the consolidation help now and do the needed repair.

debt consolidation is better viewed than debt settlement by most lenders. You save a large portion of money in the settlement plan than if you go for a consolidation plan otherwise.

Ultimately, your prime concern is to get the debts paid off and any debt management program will help.

Try to work out something with your creditors. You will get good deals if you ensure timely payments to the creditors.
