I had a legitimate dispute with a credit card company that was eventually settled for less than the total bill. Does this have a negative impact on my credit history? This is the only delinquent account I ever had.

It is going to be reported as it was settled. You may request your creditor to do a fair reporting. See if he can do it for you.

You will not get the maximum scores if the creditor reports it as "Settled for less" but it is also not a negative one, just because the account is no more delinquent.
