I found this firm online that promises to help resolve payday loan debt, often for 50% of the original principal.

Has anyone here ever dealt with them? Should I, or should I try to resolve all this on my own?

I have the same sob story as most here, so I know I'm in good company.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hi guys, thanks for the kind words.

As far as what company I'm dealing with, well, there's a few of them. More than four, I'm sorry to say. (Langhorne won't take you if you have less than that.)

I just wondered if this was something I should do myself, or do I need Langhorne's help. It seems as though the majority of you guys took care of this on your own (I've been lurking), so why shouldn't I? Is there a recommended amount, or number of companies where you all would say, "Whoa, best call Langhorne, you're in over your head."? (I'm in PA, and all my PDL's are with internet lenders.)

I feel so dumb for getting in this mess to begin with, but now it's time to buckle down and get it taken care of.

I got into the whole trap during a bad time, and now I've taken out loans to pay back old ones. I promised myself I could handle it, but guess what?

I guess that's why they call them predatory lenders, huh?

mellius1967, go to www.paydayloaninfo.org and look up PA laws. POayday lending is Prohibited in your state. The max you can pay in principal is 24 percent per year. You can fight this these internet loans are not LEGAL in your state. KYSIDE38

I have loans with:
paychecktoday
cashnetusa
loanpointusa
OSL Marketing/FSM Group
500FastCash

There may be one or two others, I'm not at work, so I don't have access to some of my stuff.

Jeez, isn't that pathetic? I don't even know how many I have...

I had one with nationalpayday, but I think that one is completely paid off.

Crap... the system must've logged me out while I was trying to find out how many loans I had. I'm the one that posted this:

(And as I mentioned before, I'm in PA.)

I thought that none of them were "licensed" in PA, since payday lending is illegal?

So that means that they're allowed to lend to people in PA, but not operate a brick-and-mortar in the state, right? Does it mean anymore than that? Does it mean that I still have to pay the ridiculous interest?

And one more question, if payday lending is illegal in PA, how come there are Check 'n Go's all over the place, and "Cash Advance" signs in all of the local check-cashing places?

mellis1967--
Here is some info regarding payday loan info in your state.

Quote:

Pennsylvania State Information

Legal Status: Prohibited

Citation:
Check cashers are specifically prohibited from making payday loans under Check Cashing Licensing Act of 1998, ???? 505(a). Otherwise, consumer discount company act applies. 7 Pa. Cons. Stat. Ann. ???? 6201 et seq.

Small Loan Rate Cap
$9.50 per $100 per year discount or 24% per year

I just looked at cashnetusa's website and they do carry a license in your state.

Mellis1967--

I'm looking for cashnetusa's license # for PA. I haven't found it yet, but I do know they are licensed in most states such as mine which is OH, b/c I found the license #. Maybe cashnetusa doesn't carry a license in PA. Sorry for telling you they are licensed in your state when they actually might not be.

Ashley,

You think that would work? I mean, most of these loans have the rollover option, but I really don't think that I've rolled them over enough that I've paid them off, plus legal amounts of interest.

Even with all that, I can demand that they be marked paid in full, simply because they're prohibited?

It's all a matter of how you want to approach it, myself I would pay the principle back and be done with it and let them TRY and get anymore money out of me. You can also take the approach that these "companies" know they are illegal in the state of PA, why should they get ANY money from you when THEY have commited a crime, the loan is illegal. It's a matter of what you can live with. Have any of them debited from your account yet?

Hey everyone... I went to my bank yesterday, and transferred my account to a new number. They're also going to automatically transfer my direct deposit into my new account on Friday, then I'll have to do the paperwork through payroll to get my subsequent checks to go in.

My question is, what next? My payday loans are due Friday, what should I do? I want to try to do this myself, if possible, but if it's going to be too difficult, I'll consider Langhorne.

I have 5, and I hear a lot of you saying that you have taken care of 3 times that many on your own, so I guess I'm thinking I can do it... just not sure where to start.

All my info is in this thread somewhere, so I won't repeat it.

Thanks in advance.

You've got to pay back at least the principal..You did borrow the money...

If they are prohibited in your state, then just pay back what you borrowed and demand the loan be paid in full at that point. If you haven't paid back the principal, offer them what is left to pay it in full.

You can use the letters, just edit them to inform them that they are not legal in your state, and that you borrowed X amount. you owe x amount to them to pay back what you borrowed and that is all that you're going to pay. If they have a problem with that, then you will just have to report them to the AG's office...of course you don't want to sound that snotty, but you get the picture. :)

Mellius, Welcome to the forums. I havent welcomed you yet. To answer your question. Payday lending is prohibited in your state. Storefronts can get by with this because they have a bank backing them. We used to have First American Cash Advance in WV. They were backed by a bank in South Dakota. Thats how they get around it and are legal. The internet ones are not legal there. KYSIDE38

It was about a PDL I had with Ambasador. Anyway after arguing with the guy for about 30 minutes I told them I would send the $150 he said would settle the account. If I didn't send it then they were going to send letters to my HR Dept. saying I committed fraud. Anyway, he told me to send the money through Western Union Quick Collect to Langhorne Law. The phone number to the place was 877-711-1199.

I am not closing the account on Monday. I am going to the bank to place a hard stop freeze on any ACH debits from hiting the account. The bank told me only credits can hit and I can still make ATM and teller withdrawals. On 12/22/06 I will take all the money out and close the account and open up with a new bank. what do you think?

This was one of the last ones I have to deal with and the only one I have sent more money to. At first they kept saying Nationwide financial so I assumed it was the place I had taken the loan out with. Then when it came time to send the money he said to use the Langhorne Law quick collect account. He did continually say that they were located in New Mexico. I would just like to know what exactly is going on with this Langhorne law place. Are they helping, hurting, or a little of both?
