The past few weeks I have been getting nasty messages on my machine from 800-670-9944. The person calling ALWAYS begins talking before my machine starts recording, and ALWAYS hangs up on her before she’s done. So I’ve never got a name, complete phone number or company of this caller and what it was in reference to. In my opinion they were doing it on purpose.

Received another call today, this time I got a full number 800-670-9944! DH called, person had an attitude and hung up on hubby. Person answering the phone would not tell DH the company name until finally he gave them what extension he needed (X-266). He was then told the company name was OTC. The person he was connected to said the company name was Omni.

Anyone know who these guys are?

Contact the FCC online and file a complaint. Or,if you can get the address of the caller, send them a certified letter telling them the only way they can contact you is through the mail. If they contact you by phone after the letter is received, they are liable for a fine.

I just got a call from this number on my cell phone. However, they called the google voice assigned number which is only a couple of months old and I only used that number about 3 times. I have no idea how anyone could have gotten it. Anyway, they didn't say who they were, just that they have been trying to get in touch with me for a long time and to call back at extension 111. So I did. And the recording said that extension 111 is invalid. Since the person didn't say who they were or who they represented, I couldn't look them up in the directory.

I'm just blocking their number because they must have gotten the alternate phone number from one of a very few places. I no longer even use that number for anything.

I would have talked to the person is she had identified herself or her company or given me the correct extension!

For 24 years I served as a law enforcement professional. I was fortunate enough to rise thru the ranks to chief. This gave me unusual access to regular legal counsel to assist me with my daily decisions. However,in 2004 I was involved in an off duty accident that finished my career and resulted in medical bills in excess of $161,000. Not all was covered by insurance and subsequently it became necessary to use a couple of credit cards. Unfortunately, the lag time between approval of my disabuility and subsequent litigation created unintended delinquencies. In the last 2 months I have received calls at 7:24 a.m. 7:14 a.m. and 3 others before the Federally allowed 8 a.m permissable time for calling on collection issues. After the 3rd time I received a call, I initiated a complaint with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) using section 15 USC 1692(k). This is the primary section for complaining about unfair or harrassing or fraudulent collection practices. IN NONE of these calls did OMNI state at the beginning that "This is an attempt to collect a debt" Its required by Federal Law before they can proceed. My own attorney is in the process of drafting litigation for an individual and a seperate Class action including a Count for Punitive damages for Intentionally disregarding the FCRA and the wording required when contacting an individual regarding collection of past due amounts. OMNI forgot, all past due accounts are not because someone refuses to pay.. Some occur because Auto accidents, Employment loss, Employment Injuries, etc...Check with your individual State for the potential to recover in both State and federal Courts. Some states allow recovery in both jurisdictions when malicious or intentional misconduct is involved. But everyone can file a complaint using the statute and section 15 USC 1692(k) of the FCRA......P.S....My calls from OMNI were recorded.....Sorry OMNI, sometimes a swift kick in the crotch will get your attention...CAR 1

The reason the messages seem to be "cut off" is intentional - these people know that if they leave a message telling you who they actually are and what they want no reasonable person is going to call them back. So they pretend like the first part of their message got cut off, hoping that you'll be curious and gullible enough to call them back.

I've learned by now that no one I don't know ever calls and leaves a "I really need for you to call me back" message when it's GOOD news. Don't fall for it.

Also remember statutes of limitations on consumer debt, and check what they are in your state. After a certain amount of time they can't take you to court. But they can still call and harass you for the rest of your life - they just have no legal recourse if you don't engage. This is a company that probably paid pennies on the dollar for your debt after it had been overdue for a long time, which means the chances are they're holding debt you're no longer legally obligated to pay. Don't feel sorry for them. This is not the company you originally contracted with for the debt, just someone hoping to get lucky and get a big return on a miniscule investment. And they know the game.

Just got a call from 18006709944 and before calling back I went Google to see what they had to say about it, and all you nice folks told me all that I need to know, which is what I figuerd was the case, hence this website with a billion numbers that we all get bombarded with daily. I love America! Another number I get receive calls from is 9723022588 and when I call back it says the party is not receiving calls and sorry for the inconvenience, but then other days it wil be 9723022589 (one digit off) and it's a wireless call where the latter # is unknown and this time I got a mans voicemail... So I left a message saying that he knew my # and I should expect a call from him later @ which time he should probably be on the phone in person instead using his computer to call me... That is if he really wants to talk to me. Who knows, they may just get a commission based on the number of people they call and irritate on a daily basis. Word!

Interesting, Guess these guys have never read the FTC Fair Debt Collections Act, huh? I just love talking to idiots such as these. I used to work debt collections for a reputable agency and whenever we had to deal with guys like this we'ld "eat their lunch" RECORD EVERY CONVERSATION YOU HAVE WITH THEM. And then sue their pants off. LOL.That's one way of getting your debts paid off.

What is the law they are breaking if they don't stop bugging you? I am getting calls too and I know it has to do with something I owe but I want them to tell me what it is. Isn't there a law that if they won't provide you with documentation when you ask for it that you no longer will owe them the debt?

I too have been getting calls from this number...My experience on the other hand has been way better with these people. I did not answer the first few times, because it was an unknown number. Every time it was the same woman, and she identified herself and her company every time. I then called her back and found out that they were willing to offer me a settlement of $7600 on a $26,000 second mortgage from Citifinancial. This was the most burdening debt on my credit report, and I was glad to take the deal!! If it was not for that, I would soon be filing bankruptcy. I have only $1600 left to pay on the settlement!! Only problem is, I will have to pay taxes on what I saved with the settlement. That's a small price to pay I guess compared to going through bankruptcy. Good thing is, I can afford to pay the taxes now!! 4 years ago, I would still be running from this debt!!

I worked as a collector for a little over a year. And I was good at it. Because I showed respect to the people that had the debt. I never called them at work unless that was the only # I had. And I always asked for a different #. No one at work needs to know your drama. It always makes you feel worse. You know you owe, you just want someone to understand. I always made arrangements that they could afford to pay. And I always cleared my accounts. I finally left the collection department of the company I worked for when my supervisor kept telling me to get tougher with the people. He told me they were all laughing behind my back. I was getting the money they owed, who cares who's laughing? As long as the debt was paid. I am now on the other side and getting ready to file for bankruptcy, I have one company that is local, coming to my house everyday and banging on my door. It sucks. I tried making arrangements to honor my debt, but no one wanted to work with me. So, this is my only option. I will be thrilled when I am no longer stalked at my home!! Good luck to all who are trying to do the right thing.
as far as getting calls from this #, I will be glad to longer have them calling me as well.

This is a zombie debt collection company named Omni Credit Collections. They buy 8 to 10 year old accounts and try to collect. They just like to drive customers nuts and know they can not sue because the debt is over the statute of limitations.:(

One day life will slap you in the face and you will be caught between a rock and a hard place. Most people cannot pay because they lost their jobs. Unemployment is not that much to live on! I hope you never have to worry about that! Have some compassion & be nice!

These people just called my house during a hurricane. Then when I informed them we were in the middle of a hurricane, I was told they didn't care and how and when was I going to pay them. After informing them, I was hanging up, they called right back and started screaming.

I have settled the small ones who have been lai back and they call but have been very polite. Once you play hard ball I ain't go to deal with you till I'm dang good and ready. Take you time awnd do what you can do if its government federal you need to care but if unsecured don't worry until you can.
