Send the letter through certified mail and return receipt requested. You may need to prove your actions later. Read some tips here on how to negotiate with the creditors.

I highly advised not to copy and paste letters found in the internet. They just give a general picture. Creditors know it very well from where you picked the letter, so they just don't take it seriously. When you write something explaining your situation, give it a personal touch, don't copy and paste from a common template.
