Need help with debt to restore credit rating

I have a home with about $100,000.00 in equity and I am in debt. I am frustrated because I was unemployed for 9 months during 2006 and was forced to live of credit cards and also got behind on monthly payments which led to a worse than poor credit rating. I see no way out. I am unable to get a home equity loan due to my credit and I am overwhelmed with collecters and fee's. I am looking for help.
