About 5 months ago I paid off a debt of mine that has been on my credit report for a bit. I was told that if I pay off debt it would be removed from my credit report with in 90 days. It has now been 120 days and it still remains on my credit report. How do I go about contacting the credit bureau to give them the information that a debt has been paid? I mean, can I even do that or do I have to sit by and wait for the company that I paid off to post that info??

Did the company say they would completely remove the item from your credit report, or just mark it as "paid in full?"

The saying, "If it isn't in writing, it doesn't mean anything." rings true about 99.9% of the time when dealing with creditors or collection agencies.

I agree with mcranberra's post, dispute with the credit bureaus, and most definitely make the creditor aware of what you're doing.
