my son just recieved summons stating he owed over 1700.00 to capital one. original credit card was issued 5 years ago when he was about 18yrs old for 400.00 credit line. he doesn't have copies of his original contract or charges, and admits he probably owed money to them before he moved several years ago. He knows it could not have been more then 400.00 though. He has tried to get a transcript of charges from blatt and capital one to show how his credit card balance went from 400. to 1700., but niether has come forth with anything yet, and his court date is in 16 days. he did not recieve his summons 30 days prior so he hasn't had much time to address this. any advise?

I don't know for sure, but it seems like the extra money could be finance charges and late fees and overlimit fees. Those add up REALLY fast. Have your son continue to press for validation of how that balance went from $400 to $1700 (contact them every day if necessary). Good luck!
