ipdl scaring me with their illegal threats

A ipdl company just called me at work and asked me if i had kids i said yes she said that i better find somewhere for them to go because i won't be seeing them for a long time. She said i committed internet fraud and likely will be going to jail. I said well for your information you don't know what you are talking about. I said i had sout legal help and she said good have you lawyer contact me click!!! What a crock..... She didn't even tell me where she was calling from. My caller id showed orlando. Do ipdl have to abid by the rules of your state or the state you borrow from?


The IPDLs needs to be registered in the state of the borrowers. That's one common rule applied on all internet loan places. When they call you next time, ask them to send you statements so that you can review it with your state laws. Don't be scared of their threats. File complaints with your AG and the BBB. They are not going to take you to the court if they are not licensed in your state.

These collectors believe that they are above the law and think that if they toss out these threats that they will get paid. Some people fall for these threats, but more and more people are becoming well educated in what their rights are as far as collections are concerned. Step back and take a good deep breath, turn that fear into anger and inturn become your own advocate. Learn what laws in your state were violated by these threats and take action. File complaints with wh FTC, your ag's office the department of finance and the BBB in your state. And the next time you get a call like this, get a mental picture of a bunch of storm troupers surrounding your home or work place to come and get you over a debt. Then start laughing. It always helps to calm you down.

What the hell? How can you call someone at their place of employment and threaten them telling them that they are going to jail and won't see them for a long time and then don't tell the person where you are calling from? Did you see a number on the caller i.d.?

I would try to trace the number and see whose calling you and then I will file a complaint with the police department and with the Attorney General's office and have their behinds arrested (behind was not the word that I really wanted to use). That is beyond ridiculous. Where do I get off doing that to you at your place of employment? I would have told them to hold on while you get on a private line and then call the police department and say that this person is threatening you on the job. Amazing. Simply amazing.

I completely agree with what everyone has said on this thread--and want to add the word harassment here, because this is a classic example. So what we have here is this bozo collector using your kids to threaten you into paying a debt! This is a violation of the fdcpa. I would document the conversation and then file reports with the local PD and your state's attorney general. The NERVE!!!!!!!!!
