Received a call at work and on my cell from a Ms. Morgan... they represent a freestanding checksmart location here in my city who i closed an account that had an outstanding check with them for a payday loan. Well this lady said that their is action being taken against me and i have until 4 p.m. today to respond. They said i will have action taken against me at my home or work? What the heck does this mean? Am i going to jail? I am freaking out.

They can't take you to jail.

There is so much to read about this company. Every post in this forum tells about their illegal collection activities. Report them to your state AG, FTC and the BBB. Don't let their empty threats get over you. If they are doing legitimate collections, they must provide you the debt validation as per the federal laws.

One thing is very common with almost all collection agencies, especially the ones violating the laws. They will make threats about legal actions and sending you to jail. One cop will come and pick you up from your place of work if you don't pay it by this time. Check the laws in your state and get these calls recorded. These are illegal violating the federal laws. You can sue the companies for making such threats.
