It will be good to stay in front and take their calls. Try to work out some arrangements so that they don't start bothering others and put you in troubles.

Your employer absolutely cannot give out any personal info about you..period. So it's really just a waste of their time to call your employer, all they can find out legally is whether you work there or not.
Sounds like these people might be about to make some noise..The best way to avoid them calling again is to call them and try to set up some arrangements. If you communicate, they're less likely to pester. I would be very very careful about a cease and desist letter..I wouldn't do it at all, because it can make them angry and they can jump straight to the collecting stage.
