just wondering if anyone knew if credit card debt could be taken out of income tax refunds? I have about 3 thousand in debt with credit cards over the past 6 yrs.Can my refund be taken by them?

As far as I know, the only people who can grab part of your refund legally are:

Any back federal taxes you owe (trust me, they pay that first  )
Any back state taxes you owe
Any child support
Any other state or federal agency. The most popular fed agency that grabs refunds is the Dept of Education, ie, student loans. For child support on a state level, I would assume the county sheriff or the Welfare Dept, if the custodial parent has filed for aid. The refund would go to pay back the welfare that was claimed.
In Bossy's case, I'm thinking possibly the Dept of Health and Human Services? Maybe Medicare? This is the first time I've ever heard of a situation like that, interesting...

Uh......only if it's affliated through a state university or medical school or medical center is what I understand. Out your way? UCLA Med Center, UC any school & hospital.

Also, CalSTAR Air Ambulance service if your in Northern or Central CA does not garnish or sue for service rendered....if the admin's don't mind a plug for one hell of a non-profit air ambulance service!

Email removed per TOS rules..Karen

Read up on 'em! These people are one hell of an organization.
