Trying to help a friend with his hospital bills.......

He has some bills that have not been paid in 8 months as he don't have any extra money. He now has a tax return that will pay about 1/2 of the bills. How would he settle with the hospital? They have an in house collections department and have already sue him but there is nothing for them to take except for a judgment on his paycheck which would put his family on the street. Any pointers??


I would be calling the Hospital's Business Office or Member Services office and explain the situation to them. Explain that if they garnished that would be a severe financial hardship and he is willing to pay it off from his tax refund. They might ask for a financial statement to prove it, but if he's already filed and the refund's on the way, they might just wait.
Either way, I'd let them know what's going on.
