Hello all. I bought a truck in 2005 and started driving as an owner operator. The business has not been so good in 2006 and I had to use credit cards to pay for the maintenance and living expenses. They approved all the cards I applied for and I used them all hoping the business would be better. Now I am looking in about 20,000 dollars debt on 5 different cards. I am looking into debt consolidation but I don't know much about it. Can someone help me out?

Hi - welcome to the forums!

If you signed up for the free counseling when you registered for this site, a consultant will be contacting you soon regarding debt consolidation or settlement programs. It would be a good idea to have your current credit report available when they call - you can obtain one from all three credit bureaus at annualcreditreport.com. That will give you a better picture of your overall credit situation.

Debt consolidation will take your bills and consolidate them into one monthly payment, which will be dispersed by the credit consolidation agency to your creditors on your behalf. debt settlement is another option, in which the debt settlement agency will negotiate on your behalf with your creditors in an attempt to get them to settle for a lesser amount than you actually owe. Many times, there are fees involved with both programs, but quite often, the fees are included in your payment plan, and are fairly affordable. You have to choose the plan that works best for your needs.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask - we're here to help! :D
