At 21 years of age I aquired my first apartment and the utility bills that it carried with it, about a year later i lost my job but the bills remained. Eventually I left the apartment and overdue bils and relocated to a different city, and now that I am in stable economic state I would like to pursue possible avenues to fix my credit history.

How old are the debts? The first step will be to pull your latest credit copies from all the bureaus and review the debt accounts. Give more importance to the recently delinquent debts, because they will be staying in your credit copy for the maximum period. The debts that are long delinquent are getting close to the seven years reporting time period and will be removed automatically. If they are already gone out of the SOL period, the creditors lose all their legal recourses because they won't be able to sue you as per the FCRA laws.

I am 19 now, at age 18 i racked up some credit card debts from Chase and Capital One (which i always paid on time), got a contract with Alltel wireless (which was always paid on time), and a small loan from a local State Finance (which is always payed on time too). Everything was going well, i had a part time job, i was going to college, and then one morning in september i got in a car wreck, i wasnt seriously injured, just had back problems and physical therapy sucked!

i had to quit my job because i had therapy 4 times a week, and still wanted to go to school... so naturally i quit my job thinking my parents would help... they couldnt...

i couldnt make payments on anything... the insurance company still hasnt settled after 5 months, so i felt a lot better... i joined the national guard... it still doesnt pay much... but its the only thing in southern illinois...

i just need to know if debt consolidation would be good for me...

i have about $2,000 in debt, and no real way to pay it

and on top of that i just got a ticket for no insurance cause i cant afford it...

any advice?

Jason - please take a look at the other thread you started - there's a reply to this question there.

In short, if you do not have any source of income from a job, etc., debt consolidation or settlement will be difficult to work with. You have to have some means of repaying the debt in order to enter into a debt consolidation or settlement program. They don't make your debts go away, they make it easier to pay them by reducing or consolidating them - but the debts still have to be paid, somehow.
