Another question

O.k. I have another question. I spoke to credit counseling of America ?? anyways its one that was referred to this site. I went over our bills etc and she explained that an Attorney Brennan would handle the accounts and that my debt settlement would be 3680.00 which is 46% of the 8,000 and that there would be an additional 2500.00 for the attorney fee. Well since I have learned my lessons from previous experiences I thought to research the Attorney. Well, after looking on here and reading the many complaints about the Attorney I have decided against it. I then did research on credit consolidation and Settlement Programs and found a website that pretty much spelled it out that they are all pretty much scams which I am thinking that most are. Are there any legit ones out there???
I really want to try and get everything paid off myself but, I don't know where to start all the credit cards are behing 5-6 months and are in collections and my one is mostly going to be turned over for me to be sued. How do I go about trying to clear up everything and make some kind of an attempt to start making a payment arrangement. When I talked to the Credit Counseling place my payment would have been 259.00 So if I was willing to pay that monthly then I should be able use that money to pay off my debts doing it myself. Can anyone here assist me in making a monthly budget and how to negoitiate with the creditors are there any letters that I could send I rather have everything in writing versus by word.
