So, I was successful in closing my account down last week and reopening a new one. When we were setting up my account they asked me if I would like to set up overdraft from my savings, and because of debt from pda's in the past, I never wanted to get into that again and I said that I would prefer to take my over draft line of credit, which was $1000, away. Well, here I am thinking that I have been a customer with them for a long time, nothing will change with them. I go in to deposit a check from my mother for my rent that is due on the 1st of the month (ON MARCH 26TH, BY THE WAY!!) and they want to hold the check for it to clear until APRIL 5TH!! My mom has always sent me checks and I have always deposited them into an account with them. (My mom lives in another state.) Anyway, I go in yesterday to get a check to pay them and the guy tells me I can't get that much cause they are holding my mom's check. I was like what???? He said on new accounts it always takes longer. I'm okay with that as the system they have might not be able to be over-riden or something...so, I leave because the guy I'm dealing with inside the branch is an idiot. When I go home I call the lady that was so kind with me last week in assisting me with closing my account and setting up my new one. When I call she's out at lunch, so the girl that answered asked me what it was about to see if she could help. I was calling to ask them to bring over my over draft line of credit from the old account ($1000) because I needed to be able to get money for my rent. The girl was like that is something my MANAGER needs to talk to you about, one moment...Then I get this lady who takes a look at my old account, and then goes to search for my mom's check. They don't have it of course, and then she was like I will call you back and tell you if I can let this clear. She calls me back about 10 minutes later and said the only thing she would be able to do was clear the funds in my account once they clear my mother's bank. I ask her then if I could bring back my $1000 over draft line of credit and she researches it and comes back and tells me we can do it. I specifically asked TWO times at the end of the call if she was SURE that we could bring that over to the new account and she responded with a YES I CAN DO THAT, both times!!! Today I needed to go in to make a deposit so before I go in I check online to see if the website shows my over draft line of credit, but it shows it hadn't changed. When I'm at the bank I ask a manager for help, and they leave me sitting there for about 20 minutes, then they stated that the girl I talked to didn't "memo" my account, nor do she have any recollection of our phone call!!! I have proof that Washington Mutual called me back after I called them first with my call records. I was telling the other manager that was there today that this is really important to me, and she stated if she HAD changed it they won't know until they talk to her on MONDAY!! I get out of my chair INFURIATED and in TEARS and just leave. It seems like they are trying to take back any promise by that "manager." What's even better is the original teller that asked me who it was I was speaking with laughed when I said her name and MANAGER. I was like, what is so funny? He said she THINKS she is a manager, but she isn't. I believe Washington Mutual should have to follow through with their promise to me. I have never felt like such a bad person as I have today. They really made me feel like slime of the Earth. I don't know what to do, but I really feel this is unfair that they are probably not going to follow through. Any suggestions? AND, may I follow a dispute with the FDIC because I was LIED to by the bank??? Please, anyone that can make suggestions would be appreciated more than you know.

Boy what a week you have had. Sometimes banks will hold out of state checks until they clear. I have two checking accounts with two different banks, one will deposit and credit on the spot, the other waits two days on my own check. I get pissed about it, but I think it is their policy.

As far as them breaking promises, I think you have a valid complaint. I would talk directly to the bank manager and let them know exactly what went on. I am sure they don't think their staff has an ounce of unprofessionalism in them, you need to call it to their attention and let them know that you plan on filing the complaint. goodluck and hope things work out for you.

Yeah, I spoke with two managers today, but it seems like they don't believe me. What happened to "the customer is always right?" How could I make up that story? I felt so horrible while they stood there telling me there wasn't anything they could do and that they needed to talk to her first...like I was a liar! I have never been made to feel that way in my entire life. It got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore and I walked out crying. When I started crying I think it made the last manager I was speaking with realize I wasn't freaking lying to her and you could see she got upset, but I quickly walked out. They owe me a huge apology. I was just curious if that was a valid claim to the FDIC? I want to be able to tell them that I will file with them if they do not honor their promise to me.

One thing you have to realize is that even though they are in the branch and think they are all-knowing, they also have managers and in some cases, they are district managers.
At Wells Fargo, they have an office called Executive Office which is like the complaint department. I have personally dealt with the EO and gotten things resolved to my satisfaction, even when the branch has told me no. I'm sure WAMU has something very similar.
I'm with you--just because this bank employee forgot to document her dealing with you shouldn't be your problem!
