Ok so yesterday as I was getting ready to go to work the phone rings.....My oldest daughter answers the phone and some man says "Hi J., This is Jimmy". My daughter asks who he is and he says his name is Jimmy and could he please speak with me "She knows who I am." So she hands me the phone since she thinks its our old neighbor who's name is Jimmy. I get the phone and he says, " Hi this is Jimmy from First Platinum Corp. I was calling about your CC debt with....." So I explain to him that I am willing to pay the debt but that Hubby and I are trying to get a Home Eq loan to try and pay off all our CC's. He states that's wonderful! (No Sh** Sherlock!) So tells me that in order to keep the CC company happy I need to make some kind of payment to show good faith. OK I understand that... He then asks what bank we are working with to get the loan. Not thinking I tell him the name of the bank and the name of the loan officer. (Mind you I'm in a hurry to get to work since I have to be there in 30 min.) So then he tells me to show good faith I have to give him a check by phone for $100.00. (I have been looking things up on the net about this and everything I've read says thats a big NO-NO) so I tell him to give me an address and I will send a check or better yet if they have an account with either Western Union or Money Gram I will send the money that way. Boy did his attitude change really quick after that! NO we NEED to have your payment NOW WITH CHECK BY PHONE! Nope not going to happen! He then tells me thats why no Collections agency will work with me since I'm trying to nigociate with them when I am the one at fault! So finally after 15 min of telling him that I will not give him a check by phone he gives me the info so I can send a payment by Money Gram. So I make my happy way to work and I'm not there 20min when the phone rings and it's the loan officer from the bank! He called her and told her that he wanted to know that statis of my loan since I owe them money and and am waiting for the the loan to come to pay them off! Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that in violation of the fdcpa laws? I thought that they were not allowed to contact anyone about my debt except me!
The Number he gave me was 1-800-760-8982. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. What should I do? Send the payment or what?

Thanks J.

Ok so I called the number that I posted above and it says that the number can't be reached from my calling area. What does that mean? The guy I spoke with yesterday said that they were out of Buffalo NY. I tried to google them but nothing comes up? WTH?? I get a bank office for FPC but not a collection agency?! :? :?

This company has been calling my home for the past month in search of Charlie Lewis. They have left numerous messages asking for "Charlie" to return their phone calls. I called the number after being fustrated with so many unecessary calls. I was conected to "Shawn". I explained to him that no Charlie has lived in my home (I have lived in my home for 15 years, so I would certainly know if a "Charlie" lived here), I asked to speak to a supervior. Shawn told me I could only speak to a supervisor if I told him "I knew Charlie". So, in order to to get the correct peson, I told him, yes I know Charlie. I have to admit that Shawn was extremly rude and abrasive in his communication with me. Once I spoke with the supervior, and explained to him I know of no Charlie, I was told they would take my name of the list. I certainly will keep you posted. I also plan to report this to the BBB immediately.

Everyone beware of this company. Last month I needed to have one of my checks removed from the system and told them I would catch up next month. They refused and told me I better have the money there. My check bounced and I recieved a non sufficent funds fee. If your going to pay them mail in your payments.

I have known quite a few ppl to work for this company and know its in and outs. DO NOT PAY THEM ANYTHING. they dont care about anyone but making money for themselves. they do not pay their employees what they deserve. the only way u get a decent paycheck is if you kiss the owners a ss! worst company to work for. completely illegal and hopefully will be shut down soon. run completely incorrectly. favoritism applies greatly here. great employees have quit because they were being treated poorly and werent being paid properly. one of the best managers i have ever had left because of those reasons and now the company is run like garbage!

I was offered a pay off 40% of original debt. They had my checking account from making payments. I told him I couldn't pay the amount then. My mother talked to them and ended up giving them her credit card # to pay this off. Two days later they took the same amount out of my checking, which bounced and now I'm broke and owe a bad check fee.
Now I am calling and calling, like they did when I owed them, and they will not call me back. Only get voice mail. Don't make any deals with First Platinum! I don't know how this is going to turn out.

If you feel that a collection agency is using illegal, harassing or unethical methods to collect debt you will want to contact the following:

ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm

bbb.org/

fair-debt-collection.com/ag-complaint-forms.html

Other than that i suggust you ask for verification of debt. Alot of these small company(s) don't have the time or resource's to provide you with the validity of your debt. If you do not receive verification of debt withen 45 days they will be forced to remove the debt from your credit report. Hope that helps. I woulkd never pay any collection agency over the phone. Mail checks or money orders.

if you did not inform them that it was the wrong number, they would have no way of knowing that you dont live there. Is your family taking messages or did they state that it was the wrong number. why dont you take responsibility for yourself and call them back?

by far the worst agency in buffalo! the office had never been cleaned in the 7 months i worked there.. illegal methods used daily.. the so called owner pays people min wage to collect on the garbage she calls good paper..she also likes to talk about people behind there backs including her own husband and the real owners. but the terrible run is coming to a bitter end real soon... the place should be condemned..i was ashamed to be part of the team.. for those looking for a job in collection never work at fpc u would be better off at burger king...

Just got word that this place finally closed down. I guess hiring a manager who plays video games, complains about her husband & demeans everyone around her was not a successful business model. Seriously - this place was the worst-run biz I ever worked for. Lucky I got out when I did.
