My wife and I got married last year, She lost her job I got taken of overtime eventually layed off and we got our selves in trouble with credit cards. Both of us are working now, but our payments are so many and so high that we can't make them and falling behind!!

Get all the latest statements of the credit accounts and calculate the total balance. If it's a huge balance, debt settlement will be a good option. Or, you can consolidate everything under one payment. You will get a lower interest rate in your pay off. See all the options on which you can discuss with the counselor.

Discuss your repayment options with a counselor. He will work out an affordable payment plan for you.

I was told by a counselor that they contact the creditors after the customer enrolls in their program. They give you different options about the repayment plan. They have experiences working with different creditors and know how the plan is to be framed. After you agree and sign their contract, they start negotiating with the creditors.
