I rec. a call today from Viking Collections. The woman said that they purchased my debt..although she did not know why they did. She said they were a very aggressive collection agency. I tried working with the orginal credit card company but was humiliated and laughed at to the point I could not..I offered to pay $50, of which they said that was not enough. Heard nothing for a long while until today.
They want me to send them $75 a month in six different checks all sent at once. I have to send them overnight tomorrow and call her when I do.
I don't know what to do? I want to pay my debt, however, they will not discontinue interest and my $75 will pay off $5.00 of the debt. I have seen in this forum not to pay the purchaser of the debt..who would I pay and how. Also, she said that they do file suit on people and that litigation could happen to me.
Please help..I don't know what to do.

Because the original creditor charged off your account, and rather than paying for collections, they sold your debt to obtain some form of payment on your account.

If it's a legitimate debt, then you will need to work something out with the company that owns it. If that means that Viking Collections bought it, then you need to work something out with them.

It is not generally advisable to give banking info to a collection agency; then are many stories out there of them taking more money and/or sooner than they are authorized to do so.

You can send them a letter restricting communications by them to mail only. Keep copies of all of your correspondence with them, and send everything CMRRR.

First of the debt validation needs to be done. After that call them back and may be you will get someone who is more cooperative. Sometimes they play good cop bad cop. It is a stupid game on their half, I always say you get more bees with honey. What ever you do, don't let them intimidate you.

How old is this debt? The SOL has run on many purchased debts. If you do overnight the payment, it will validate the debt, as well as bring it back into the SOL (if the SOL has run).

Debt buyers are scavengers, and you must make them provide proof every step of the way. Begin by sending the debt validation letter. Never admit to owing even a portion of the debt.
