Well, here is the problem. If you don't tell them that you are working with T & C and just ignore them, they are going to send the checks to the bank to attempt to get payment. If you do tell them you are working with T & C, they may do the same thing-try to collect on the checks. Is there any way possible you can go ahead and close the account and pay the rent in cash? I think that would be the best option. I have dealt with Advance American in Ohio and they were ok to deal with as long as I made regular payments to them but my friend tried to consolidate them with T & C and Advance America rejected T & C's proposal so now she is working on paying them back on her own.

Unfortunaetly, I have written a post-dated check to the landlord that will be drawn on the bank that I will be closing as soon as the check clears. I think I will just have to advise them that I am unable to pay and see if they will work with me or extend me until I can get the account closed. It looks like I may have to put a stop payment on the checks. Fortunately, one of them is not due until Monday, so I could possibly have the account closed before the check is processed. I will need to see. I guess I will need to call them and ask. I have already gotten the phone number to Checkmate's collection department and since I haven't defaulted yet, maybe they will work with me. Wish me luck!
Has anyone experienced where they closed their bank account and was able to open a new account at the same bank? Has there ever been a problem that the pdls would be able to get into the new account? I'm a little scared of this but I don't want to leave the credit union. The person I spoke with today told me they would not have access to the new account unless I gave it to them.

Advance America will put the check through. Even if you tell them you are working with a debt cons company their policy is to put the check through.
Sometimes a bank will allow a company to debit an account without having an account number. Some of the pdl's will put it in the contract that they can debit any bank account, not just the one you gave them the account number for. It has happened before, which is why I wouldn't recommend opening a new account at the same bank. If you do, do not put much money in the account for a while, and do not have overdraft protection. That way if the pdl does find a way to hit the account, at least you are only out nsf fees and not $100's of dollars.

Excellent advice from goudah. You can never be sure what these pdl places are going to try. Just when we think we have heard everything, they pull something else over on somebody. I would really open an account at a different bank. Historically, there have been many times banks have told a customer nobody could get money out of their new account and lo and behold, they check and their account is wiped out by one of these places.
