I just found out today
Date: Mon, 12/10/2007 - 16:26
I just found out today that somebody showed up where I used to live looking for me to 'deliver a package'. Suspecting a debt collector, I did a quick court search and came up with the following info:
Date 8/31/2007 - Type Contract - Plaintiff Resurgence Financial
Activity Date 9/25/2007 - SUMMONS RETURNED N.S. REASON: NO CONTACT
Activity Date 10/10 and 10/11 - MOTION FOR APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL PROCESSOR SERVER FILED - APPOINT SPECIAL DEPUTY ALLOWED
Here's the one I don't understand:
Activity Date: 11/28/2007 - ALIAS SUMMONS ISSUED AND RETURNABLE
There is also a court date shown for the end of December.
What dos the Alias summons issued and returnable mean?
Thanks for your help, I'm broke, on disability, and can't afford a lawyer.

There can only be one 'original summons', which is issued when the case is first filed. The Sheriff will attempt to serve the summons, and it gives you a return date by when you must file an appearance with the court.
If the sheriff returns the original summons NS (not served), then the case cannot go on to trial.
An Alias Summons just means a new summons has been issued with new court dates. They will have to serve you before the return date on the alias summons or else it will be returned NS. They can issue as many alias' as they want until they can actually serve you.
