We've got about $70K in unsecured loans, CCs, and dept store debt. I guess we "surfed a credit wave" for quite a while, and now it's crashed. Was current on everybody until about 2 months ago. Now, minimums aren't getting made any more, and I'm at least one month behind on almost everyone, with no end in sight.

BK just isn't an option, nor is any additional consolidation (credit). I think the simple credit counseling option just won't work at this point. Which finally led me to settlement.

We're the kind of people that would just be more comfortable with having someone reputable handle it for us. So, who might that be? We found a few companies through Google searching and linked ads (ugh), but I'm very hesitant about throwing all my personal and financial info over the fence to someone I just read about.

I don't know how I landed here at this forum, but I sure am glad I did. Look forward to comments and advice.

You can never be too careful when choosing a good settlement companies. God knows their are a ton of bad companies out there. I suggest when shopping around make sure to check them out on the BBB to make sure they have a solid track record. Also make sure they are members of TASC or USOBA. New Beginnings debt settlement , Oak View Law , Century Negotiations and Superior debt relief are a few companies you may want to start your search with. They are all members of the BBB with excellent track record. :D

Mobile,
Thanks for the reply. Have you, or anyone else here, got an opinion or experience with American debt relief in Grapevine, TX? They're the people we initially contacted (but haven't committed to yet). I didn't see anything turn up in a search here.

This forum is a godsend. I never knew anything about settlement, and if I had, I'd have thought it was some sort of scam.

I plan on doing a lot of catching up on reading here...
:!:

I believe you mean
AMERICAN DEBT CONTROL LLC
(817) 231-0950
4821 MERLOT AVE, STE 210, GR APEVINE, TX 76051

They are NOT members of the BBB but they have a some what OK reputation with the BBB.

Quote:

The company has been responsive to any complaints brought to its attention by the Bureau.

Complaints concern service issues. Specifically, consumers allege agreed on services were not provided by the company. Some consumers say when they did not pay creditors as instructed by American Debt Control and their creditors sued them; others say they negotiated their own settlements. American Debt Control responds by saying they have preformed according to contract.

I would personally shop with other companies like the ones I listed above. They are not bad but I have seen better.

My name is Alli, I am a teacher! I got in touch with American Debt Control a year ago to help me get out of debt. My finances were in bad shape. I had missed one payment to Bank of America and then that lead to an out-of-control situation. I felt like such a terrible person and was constantly stressed out by the harassing phone calls and letters. I choose to pay rent, car payments, and food over my credit cards. I decided I had to get help... so I Googled debt relief and a lot of companies came up.. I researched a few of them... I called them next... ADC was so very nice and understanding that I signed up with them immediately. We worked out a payment plan that would get me out of my $20,000 worth of debt in three years... I was ecstatic to think of being out of debt that quickly... a few months later I received a phone call from them about getting out of debt even faster.. I took it.... 6 MONTHS later I was out of debt!!!! I paid a total of $3590 in 6 months... From $20,000 to $3,590 is amazing! It feels so good now to not worry about owing anyone... And I had a pedicure to celebrate my victory!! I would like to say to anyone thinking about using ADC to go for it you won't regret it! I have never been happier with a company and it's employees, also I have never worked with a nicer bunch of people!

Two years ago (November 2007), my wife and I had approximately $40,000 ($39,875.83) dollars in debt and we were struggling to make our monthly payments. With the help of American Debt Control (ADC), we were able to pay-off all our credit card debt. In addition, our credit scores have improved so much, we were able to purchase (closed July 2009) a new 3600 ft2 home at a fixed interest rate of 5.25%. None of this would have been possible with the services provided by American Debt Control.

listen to mobile you CANNOT over research a company. be sure you find a good one take the time you need to know everything that you are getting into there are far more bad companies than there are good these days its a shame but true. make sure the company is upfront and honest with you if they lie about stuff than how could you ever trust them. here are some things you should ask them.
1. can i get sued? answer is yes no settlement co can stop this the only thing they can do is try to get settled before your have to appear in court

2. will collectors still call? yes some still will if they say no they are lying!

3. can they garuntee a settlement? no some companies just wont negotiate! rare but it does happen! and they surely cannot promise you that they will settle for a certain amount no one knows what the settlement could possibly be

there are more but there is a few
